So,

The dish went up in Jan... and I only just got around to posting my pics, which is a bit lame.

Big thanks again to the person on the forum that helped me out (physically!) after I made a slight drilling error on the first attempt and decided I needed some help. You know who you are :D could not have done it without you, and still feel really bad that by the time we made it to the pub they had stopped doing food, DOH! :-doh!:-doh!:-doh!

For those that are interested the dish is made by Metronic, its a clear resin with a mesh in it and seems to perform pretty well. I can swing aobut 45E to 30W without hitting the roofline, but it had to go up above the roofline to get to 30W.

I thought it looked big when it went up, but last weekend someone opposite had a 80CM mesh fitted and that looks huge in comparison, clear dish really makes a difference.

Included some pics of the wall plate (B&Q, cheap) which also shows the cat5 I ran (ready for a reciever upgrade in future maybe!) but I have a technomate 1500CI+ at the moment.

I bought a F-plate for the wall, but decided to just drill out a blanking plate and not add signla loss with a join in the end, for now anyway. Luckily there is a nice lamp that hides this long row of sockets when they are not posing for the camera!

For the observant amongst you the plate bottom right corner has 2x 4pole Neutrik speakons in it and the wall end is joined to the cables under the floor for surround sound speakers. There is only one socket in use cause I only have 5.1 surround but I wired for 7.1 when I moved in and laid the floor. Nothing like a bit of future proofing ;)

Only frustration is I cannot find the picture of the lounge with the TV and all the boxes under it, have to follow later when I find where I saved it.

Paul

They are pretty much middle of the range in quality, so compare with most commonly available dishes performance wise.

I have no comparison, so would bow to Rolf's greater experienced based response, but I get a pretty good signal compared to some posts I was looking at when I was trying to get Czechlink on 23.5E (before it moved to 19.2E).

There is another post on the forum somewhere though were someone with a solid dish around the same longditude/latitude as me was getting a signal where I can't so I can't say its identical to a more traditional dish.

I think the best "real world" analysis is that I can get all the common stuff, if I was chasing feeds I would have gone for something bigger in the back garden ;-)

Remember that its not that hard to appear solid to a 12GHz signal, and the mesh is quite visible at ground level, but once the dish is up it looks really clear. The onyl thing that does make it quite obvious is that it reflects a lot of light when the sun catches it at a certain angle. Also, I am hoping that its not melting the cap on the LNB by focusing the sun on it... still getting a signal at the moment, but it was something I wondered about when I got it!

The guy over the road had a 80cm black mesh put up the other week and it looks huge in comparison to mine... even though they are the same size. So I can recommened it on an appearence level ;-)

Paul

PS Just wanted to add that I did take the pictures, someone did a few pics for me as well at the time of the install but I could not find these when I looked so I took some more - although this will already be obvious if you checked the EXIF data ;)

Not very clear this morning, more sort of white dish, with white LNB and white bracket on white pole with... ;)
