Hi, i've been trying to put up my first system, the dish is up on the wall but i can't find anything, are the trees too high for where the dish is? the sky dish on the chimney gets a signal fine? the picture of the trees is taken from the height of the dish looking straight out are they too high, and the other pics shows how much higher the sky dish is

Basically i'm trying to find absolutely any sat with no luck, i'm using a 57cm kit from maplin, but i'm using a sky box to find the signal because the Comag SL35 it only tells you the signal for the specific channel on the specific sat you select.

Did Sky put there dish on the chimney, because if they did it must have been for a very good reason, which could well be the trees especially when they have leaves on them.
Can you supply a picture which shows the height of the trees and the house.

Hi martz!
Hard to tell from the pictures but a simple sat bleeper would help with the setup, I also think it would be worth saying I want to set the dish on 13e and use the comag and work to finding a specific sat not just any sat.
Use the list of stongest transponders in the stickeys to aid with the set up.

If a Sky installer put it up there, instead of the "easy" option of putting it on the wall where you have put yours, it was because he was unable to get a signal from there.
They would not have gone on the roof if they did not have to common sense really, after all would you ! O-no

Still hard to say martz but Rob has a good point!
Having looked at the pictures again a chainsaw may be a better investment
than a sat bleeper:-doh!

okay cheers, so basically no foreign sat for me, my parents won't let me go on the roof and the trees are pretty high to cut down, oh well so much for a good school report.

probably you'd get a signal if you use some t&k brackets and use a pole so the dish is above the roof ?

can you get astra 2 @ 28.2east on the dish ?

Very good in theory but a ba*ta*d in practice, and I don't think the local council will be to thrilled if they found out.
Also exposed to the wind up there, don't think so I'm afraid. O-no

basically, i've just got back from my nans house where there's no obstructions, not even a sniff of a signal watever way i point it, when i connect it to my sky dish i get a signal about 75% both strength and quality, i don't know what i'm doing wrong and am frustrated right now.

I was doing this with my system yesterday and you only have to be a tiny bit out especially with a tiny 57cm dish, and you will get nothing as I found out yesterday.
If you are seriously thinking of doing this then get yourself a satellite finder, they are not expensive and are worth there weight in gold.
Have a look on e-bay, they must do them on there.

I'm not surprised, remember it's not just the east to west movement but at the same time you must make sure the up & down movement is right and I had a pig of a job doing it yesterday with the wife watching the TV for a picture which never came.
Even getting the Sky signal from 28.2 east is difficult with a 57cm dish, even when you can see everybody else's dish.
Get a sat finder, that's what there there for. ;)

Looks like the trees are much taller in the due South area than in the notch which the Sky dish is pointing above. You may have to consider putting the dish on the front, looking over the roof.

Left school 15 years ago, could'nt use them then be fooked if I can now.
Like Rob said earlier don't forget you need to move the dish up and down as well as east to west.
Remember where there is a will there is a way;)
