For the clients, if you say no to DHCP, then the attached is all you need to setup.

The figures you have used will require you to setup your router as 192.168.1.1, which is how mine is set, but it's more usual to have the first three numbers (octets) set to 192.168.0, which would make your router 192.168.0.1, and would force you to make your other boxes (lappie and dbox) 192.168.0.5 and 192.168.0.10.

Why have you got a LAN connection? I thought you were only using the wireless link from your lappie to the router? If you're not using it, disable it.

I expect you have a web interface to set up your router. I would turn off the DHCP server runing on it (but you don't have to, even if you hard-code the individual IP's on your clients), and set it up as above. You have obviously punched in all your ISP details correctly already. You will also want to have NAT enabled on your router to allow multiple boxes to share the internet connection.

I think that Nat enable on router is not set to allow sharing. Cant seem to find it on the web interface for router. Do you know where its hidden?.
******found it now but was enabled. Will keep messing around with it*****

Can your Dreambox see the big wide world?

I'd check this first.

I'd then check the laptop, but with it hard-wired.

Cant get any thing out of it, still the same way as last night. tried the db hard wired and nothing. The wireless router is not passing anything out of the 4 ports. getting the icon still that it is connected at 54 Mbps and status connected. But wont connect to the internet, modem not connected is what im getting on screen......This is 100 times harder than the d box to set up. Ah

I think i know whats happening, In Lynskys set up. Went to Status then into internet config type. Not connected there. When go to connect get the info box saying Could not get an IP address from PPPoE server. Will I have to contact them because I cant put any in manually.

Can only connect to internet leaving Lynskys router out. Model no is WRT54G.

All that means is that you're not being allocated a dynamic IP address by your ISP, which is what should happen every time you dial up. It will be different each time.

That could be for any number of reasons. It just means that your modem is not connecting. All the information you require for the router configuration is in your laptop, if you've been connecting using that.

I take it that you have not had the Ethernet modem connected to your ISP at all yet?

You're router will need some basic information like userid and password to connect, plus maybe some other info, depending on what your provider requires. What is the IP address of the router, and can you ping it from your laptop?

I loaded the user id and password into the Linskys router under the PPPoE menu. Got the icon saying im connected. But cant use internet it says modem not connected.

To be honest m8, I think it's the Creative box you have. It actually a router itself, and I don't think it's going to like sitting behind another router (or rather, your Linksys is not going to like seeing a router on its modem port). I'm just trying to find some technical doco, but as you say, the Creative support is crap (from where I'm standing at least). The Linksys router doco is, however, excellent as usual and will be a piece of cake to set up.

Did you get the Creative modem/router from PC World?

Let me do a bit more digging. I'm thinking that this is the root of your problem though. I need to read the doco for the Creative box. Don't get p!ssed off yet. Your Linksys router is cool, and will do what you want.

Anybody else here using the WRT54G, and can recommend a modem to John?

John, I'm sure that this is your problem. Instead of buying a plain ADSL modem, you have bought an ADSL modem and router combined.

I would suggest taking it back, and buying the correct modem.

If you don't want to do that, I think it may be possible to make it work, but then you will have to use the router built into the modem instead of the WRT54G.

It could work, but it would probably be inferior to the Linksys.

That would involve turning off the routing capability of the WRT, and using it only as a WAP and hub combined. All a bit messy.

What do you want to do? Do you want me to identify a suitable modem for you?

Yes could you do that, got the modem off my supplier so will send it back. Not paid for it yet. Seen on amazon that the Linksys BEFCMU10 goes with it but cant find it anywhere. There is a linskys supplier not to far from me (microaid.ie) So if you can find one i will get onto them and see if they have it. John

Yes, but I assume that's only if you connect it to your PC and use the USB connection to do it. Only then will you need a Windows driver. If it sits on the other side of the router, it won't need any drivers.

I'll do some digging, but not sure if I'll have time today. Sit tight. :)
