Failure to start is almost certainly a power supply problem. See this sticky for help -

Farnell have a selection - _http://uk.farnell.com/aluminium-electrolytic. Use the filters in the chart to tick 3300uF, 10V only. Scroll down in the results. You need 105°C radial leaded. Size is shown in the chart, just choose one with a footprint that the power supply will accommodate. You may need to purchase more than the two you require, usually five.

Used to be loads of components shops in or near that area in my day, now mostly Dixons and the like. Vipersan's suggestion seems the best idea. I have the basic Passion box which has a different power supply. Without checking mine, I believe the capacitors are a tight fit amongst the other components, so if the capacitors you buy are too wide, you could get away with extending and sleeving their leads so they stand out from the board. Just make sure you have the +ve and -ve leads the correct way round when you fit them.

Cricklewood Electronics hold a component stock, may be worth popping across to there.

Ah yes, forgot about them Rolf. The 3300uF 16V electrolytic there would be OK, depending on size - some higher voltage caps are smaller in profile than others of the same value, depending on manufacturer.

thanks guys for the suggestions VS all bought and awaiting delivery in tghe meantime i have bought a bush box from argos which i must say was the easiest thing to set up...less than 10 mins although a bit of hassle adding non-freesat channels....but this way we will not miss any of the olympics and the box can always be returned or keep as a back up.

The +ve (positive) lead will be the longest one, inspecting your new capacitor. In any case, the capacitor will be marked '+' down the side of the capacitor adjacent to the positive lead.

A sleeve for the leads can be made from any insulation stripped from a piece of cable or wire, so that it can be slid over each capacitor wire in order to prevent electrical contact with the other wire or other components' exposed connections.
