Hi guys the tress have been cut but the signal quality is still the same, and there is a definite clear line of sight. Thanks so much for helping me but I think I'll just have to live with it

Yes I agree, too. Another installer could solve your problem.

Hello again I have now found out my hispasat dish is 60cm, not 80, I guess that's why it isn't working. I've finally started looking into getting it fixed agin, I checked and the installer closest to us only has 85cm dishes, which he says are too heavy for my wall (which has wood planking and plaster inside)l do you guys think 75cm will be enough to make a difference, and also will it be too heavy as well?

You shouldnt have too many problems with 30W Hispasat on a well set up 60cm dish - the 2 birds there chuck out a huge signal. Is the lnb skew set up right - its the other way from normal skew on easterly birds.

Agreed: 60cm is perfectly adequate.

The installer I used said he was perplexed as to why it wasn't working, and, after trying to peak it as best he could, he said the only option for a better signal was to get a bigger dish, he confirmed the skew was set up. I really don't understand why there is no signal in cloudy or rainy weather, it seems in my area 60cm just isn't enough

60cm should be plenty almost anywhere in the UK.

The problem could be poor alignment, a duff lnb, water in the cable, a crushed cable, a lnb / tuner incompatibility, wrong skew or any one of a dozen or more reasons.

Is the dish visible - if so make sure the lnb skew is at about "5 oclock" instead of the typical "7oclock" used for Sky UK.

I'm not technical enough for that really :( I will ask nearby installers I guess since I don't want to do anything to the dish in case I break it. I don't think it can be a crushed cable as the cable is straight, and the opening is covered up with tape well, so I don't think it's water in the cable, but rain definitely makes the signal much much worse, but about five minutes after it stops raining the signal comes back

You really cant break a dish. If you have completely safe access have a go - you will get loads of help here, and the worst that can happen is that you dont make a difference. Most faults are fairly easy to spot and fix.

And you will learn a lot and save yourself a few quid when you have problems.

Unfortunately I don't really have safe access and I have dyspraxia so, even though I want to, I need to use a ladder and I am never good on them :)

Fair enough - no-one should ever put their own safety at risk for the sake of a hobby. :)

Much better to pay a few quid outand live a long life!

Well I'm stumped. I asked the installer and he said he checked the cables for crushing or water, and I went and got my camera and zoomed in on the lnb and it is skewed to 5 o'clock exactly.

Skewed in the correct direction, though?

Should be skewed anticlockwise for Hispasat, as viewed looking from LNB towards dish.

Looking towards the dish, the LNB's end (the bit that juts out where the coax cable goes) is pointing towards 5 o'clock

Many times i have peaked a dish to my meter but it was week for the customer on specific transponders ... get the installer to check for the frequencies you need .
Worst comes to worse have him move the dish slightly and watch the meter bar on your receiver ... all will be revealed then .

Mariust5 you are right the installer came over the weekend and looked at the dish, saying there is a strong signal. This is now true, but only for some channels. Others, which are on another frequency/transponder, are weak no matter how much we peak the dish. I don't think there is a way to fix this unfortunately as I can't really have a bigger dish up
