Hi,

Also, the size of dish you require does depend on where exactly in spain you are, which you have not indicated in your profile. some areas in the north of spain and the extreme south of spain can get away with a 1.35m dish.

check your local english papers, as they are normally a fair few installers advertising, and also check with neighbours for recommendations.

again it would be better to ask a few people who have dishes in your area and ask them what channels you get and what goes off at what time and then ask a few companies to see what they say.
and you know that to get the recording functions on you rplus box you must pay Sky (min £10 or some form of subsction package)

Down in torrevieja you could be in the region for a "microwave" re-broadcast system. If your dead set on the BBC/ITV then you may get away with a 1.4mtr dish down there, but also look at the other options like a motorised dish and if you have ADSL maybe a Protek receiver

I notice you are using the tecatel 1.2m. Do you know what is the dish like for performance, weight and price as opposed to the gibertini?

Thanks

We have an apartment in the Torrevieja area, and can confirm that an enormous dish is necessary to pick up BBC and ITV etc. direct from satellite. As ours is just a holiday home I have contented myself with an 80 cm dish and FTA channels on Astra 2 south beam and Eurobird 1.
As previously mentioned locally there are a number of companies offering "microwave" systems, but beware as some have recently reduced channels and others have disappeared completely. This seems to have been caused by threatened legal action from Sky over the resending of their signals, which of course is entirely illegal. The setting up of these systems by the way, is in the region of 300 - 500 euros, and 18 - 25 euros a month. So be careful if you go down that route.

you only need a 1.35m in your area to receive all BBC / ITV etc on the new freesat platform or SKY

Enjoy ;-)

You will NOT receive BBC/ITV on any consistent basis with a 1.35m dish in the Torrevieja area. In northern Costa Blanca you may. South of Alicante you will not.

HELLO,

I have just installed a 1.35m for a customer in the Murcia area and can confirm he receives some of the BBC / ITV channels, he was very limited on space so could not have the 1.45m.........

But the best size to go for in this area if you have the space is a 1.45 m high gain dish as this will ensure that all the BBC / ITV channels stay on all day without interuption (apart from in very bad weather of course).

The only reason some customers in this area have larger dishes is because in the past the 1.45 was not available to buy so they had to have a larger dish !!!!!!!

I am an installer so i know what is and is not required, so anybody who comments that is just giving dish sizes based on what a mate told them in the pub or what size dish the next doors house has should be ignored otherwise you may end up installing a monster dish when it just is not needed.........

So as a rule the following always applies:

North of Alicante: 2.4 m dish

Murcia Area: 1.45 m dish

But always ask a installer to be sure !!!!!

Enjoy :-)

I have two friends, one in Gran Alacant, the other in Torrevieja that have been ripped off by so called professional satellite installers, spending many hundreds of euros for systems that only work sometimes, so forgive me if I have a somewhat jaundiced view of such people. Have a look at :-http://www.brymar.co.uk/info/europe_dish_size/Spain/spain.html
I have no knowledge of the Murcia area, but it is a lot further south and as the map shows this makes a hell of a lot of difference.

What make of dish are you talking about? No one makes a 1.45m dish. Perhaps you mean the Famaval 1.4m prime focus dish?
You can't really describe this as high gain as Famaval are just average: the Famaval 1.4m is only a tad better than the Gibertini and ASC signal 1.2m dishes.
(Gibertini & ASC signal 120 cm 41.3dBi @10.95 ghz, Famalval 140 cm 41.8 dBi @10.95 ghz.
Best to measure a dish by the actual dish face, not overall dimension, and everywhere else but Spain they are measured horizontally. Installers there try to make out the dish is bigger than it really is by quoting its vertical size- and charge more as a result. I've seen this countless times (literally) in the Madrid area.

In The Gran Alacant area (just north of Santa Pola & south of Alicante) you need a 1.9m dish to pick up bbc/itv etc.

Also Just to west of Elche it is the same.

This is for sky broadcasts.

What I dont know & would like the answer too is how will freesat cope in this area ?

thanks

Robin..

as freesat and sky use the same satellite frequencies for their channels, reception would be exactly the same.

hi

thanks,

my understanding is the freesat signal is a bit more demanding to get reception.

actually the freesat EPG signal (11428h eurobird i think) is stronger than the Sky EPG signal (11778v astra 2anorth).
to use the freesat epg you need a freesat receiveer
to use a sky epg you need a sky receiver
the channels selected on either epg will look for those channels on the same frequency (apart from channel 4 - astra 2d for freesat, astra 2b for sky 104)
