Hi all

Can one use a sky yellow house (the ones cheap on ebay) card with poor man's cam and say a phoenix usb device to watch channel 4 + five?

(hope this is the right place to ask - if not i'll post on the cam section)

You need an official SKY FTV Card and a working SKY BOX to keep the card active.

sorry, not fully satisfied with this answer.
I'll reformulate:

#1 how can one use an active sky card without a digibox (ie. dragon cam, etc)

#2 can poor man's cam plugin decrypt videoguard with an active sky card?

I migh say a lot of bull but its something like this.

1- AFAIK only possible on a Dreambox with a Dragon Cam
2- The card needs to be updated every X days and a digibox is the only way to keep it working using the phone line.

Check this thread/section to know the Y's and Hows:

The sky card requires "stay alive" refresh signals. These are transmitted via satellite and are required every 2-4 weeks. You do not need a phone line to keep the card alive.

For a brand new installation the card will also need to be initially authorised in a digibox.

To be honest, its much simpler all round to have a second small static dish specifically for 28E attached to a digibox.

Why couldn't the card "stay alive" plugged into a phoenix programmer and being cam-emulated? What would be the difference?

Dunno, try it and see.....

Note - the card contacts are in a different place on Sky cards than most cards (offset to one side slightly) which could be a problem... If you get it to work please tell us!:D :D :D
