Well signing up for win insider was painless & Im now downloading the latest 64bit preview of the win 10 software. Its going to take 4 hours but its downloading.......

Maybe I'll cancel it & d/l it on our lightning fast connection at work instead!

So anyone want to make a bet that MS changes the rules again before the end of July?! :D

Do Windows Insiders get a free license?
"sort of, but not really". If you stay in the Windows Insider program, you will continue to receive what are, for all intents and purposes, "Trial" versions of Windows 10, which expire after a period of time. These builds are Beta and Test versions, so may continue to have problems because they are not "Production level" code

I have the enterprise version of win 7 at the moment and just checked to see if I can get a free upgrade to windows 10.

According to the website any enterprise edition is not eligible. :-(

I might just have a go later tonight, see if those old games can work with the newer machine.

My old games stopped working when I started W8 so I am sure it will be a NoNo for W10

Think I will sit on the fence for the moment to get feed back from other members that upgrade to win 10 and post their findings before committing any of my lappies to the devious MS.
More than happy with win7:-ohcrap but it took some getting used too.

Regards

Updates were released last night for anyone using Win8. If I get any spare time this weekend I'll download it (about 2.6GB of code though)

Download goes on in the background (my wife's laptop is downloading as I type) and then you can install when (or even if) you want.

A slight warning here. My wife's laptop finished downloading W10 and presented the window to accept or decline the EULA. Nothing about when to install so with some trepidation I clicked accept. It then asked whether I wanted to install now or at a later date. But WTF! The later dates are the next two days!

When my time comes I'll decline the EULA and see what happens. Pity about my wife's laptop. She'll be subjected to constant nagging to update no doubt.

Meant to add this in to last post. If you're hungry to download W10 here's a direct link

Seen it written that Microsoft have organised content delivery at 40 Terrabytes per second. That might slow things down generally on the Internet.

Seen the adds on TV today ..
I have to say I'm not impressed ...on account it looks very much like the grubby fingered point'n'drag OS that was win8..
I thought MS had learned their lesson that most users don't want this ..and prefer a proper desktop environment..
Unless of course you can totally switch the tiles off ..in favour of a more familiar theme ?
They just wont take no for an answer will they..

Because they'd already broken it when they went from 7 to 8.

Why mend something that's not broken???
Because the users are slow to accept changes.
Because they'd already broken it when they went from 7 to 8.
Windows 8 or 8.1 is the same under the hood as Windows 7. Only the GUI was changes to be more accomodating for touch interface.
Or, have you ever heard a systems administrator moaning about the the changes of GUI with Windows Server 2012. WS12 has the same tile structure as Windows 8. Ist just people like continuity and they dont like to learn something new. Now we get Windows 10 which is a Windows 8 with a slightly modernized Windows 7 GUI.

So my tip is, if your current System is working fine, dont upgrade. If you buy new, dont care. They are all very similar. Just look at the Windows 7/8 control panel. They are virtually the same.

BTW: the free upgrade is possible for a year from now according to Microsoft.

There's a story in Daily Mail about someone who upgraded then found the next day that his mature content stash had been converted to slide show which was running as a screensaver. :-rofl2
