Nice job Chris ..
I had freenas on a CF and running for years on an IDE to CF reader internally ..
Very reliable ..but of course few mainboards these days have IDE ...
So perhaps there is a sata to CF adapter ?
I much prefer CF for this job ..
Probably wrong these days ..but CF has a wider port access ..unlike an SD or USB ...
..basically serial access ..
Which is faster ?
Which is more reliable ?
debateable I guess ..with high speed USB

The card reader is fitted to a USB header, as I have used all the sata slots onboard and had to fit 2 more sata controllers so I could fit more hdd's.

So I don't have any slots left.

Ordered a compact flash card, as the sd card seems to be running slow, when I tell it to shutdown the software does shutdown properly but the nas fails to kill the power.

Hopefully I will be able to clone the img from the sd card and burn it to the compact flash card.

Thought I had a card reader so I can clone the sd card to this, but I can't find it :-dohlooks like I may have to buy another card reader.

What advantage, if any, is there to using a CF card as opposed to an SD card? They have basically the same form factor, that much I know.

I am experiencing a slight niggle, from the web interface I hit the shut down option, the nas starts to shut down.

After 20 minutes or so the nas is still powered but the software has shut off.

So when I was reading some of the FreeNAS forums some people have had similar issues, found out last night that I was running a beta version so that may account for the niggle.

The compact flash option is faster and so I am told more reliable.

Treating the nas to a new psu.

Waiting for a Corsair 650w psu to turnup, then I can rob the psu in the nas for another project.....

The MK II has officially become the MK III :D

Some of you will know I swapped the mobo for a bigger board and cpu a little while ago.

Today I changed the power supply from a cheap as chips one to a Corsair VS550.

At some stage I plan to add another sata controller card, this will allow me to add another 4xhdd’s to the raid array.
