I'm new so if I want to watch the sky "free channels" - there was a card available at the beginning of the year at 23GBP and there is a rumour that another card will be available shortly? Will I be able to use an Echostar 808 to get Sky with one of these cards?

Sorry, no. You will need a Digibox to use the FTV card as this is the only way to get a Videoguard CAM.
