Hi, Please be gentle on a non-techie woman!. I'll try to keep my bit simple.
We have a Sky dish and a Pay once freesat box for a TV in the lounge.
We now have a new digital ready HD tv in the bedroom.
From posts and FAQs I see what we need in the way of LNB and cable (see, picking up the lingo already!).
My question is should or will the new tv be able to get Freeview as it is or would we need to get another Sky box of some kind?.

Ok, some more lingo for you first of all!

FTA - Free to AIr. A channel that can be watched without any card.
FTV - Free to View. A channel that needs a card to be able to watch it. There is normally a one-off payment for this type of card and the card will then last untl the next time that $ly change their cards (about every 5 years or so)

Freeview - Digital TERRESTRIAL Television delivered through a normal TV aerial. Modern TVs can understand this type of signal but older ones need a set top box (ST:cool: to be able to receive them.

Freesat - Digital SATELLITE Television delivered through a satellite dish and using a Freesat STB to feed the TV.

Freesat from Sky (FFS) - similar to Freesat but using one $ly's Digiboxes. There is also a special card, essentailly a stripped down $ly subscription card, so that you can get a few FTV channels that aren't available FTA.

To strictly answer your question. Your TV will almost certainly receive Freeview TV but you will need to attach it to a normal TV aerial. The TV is probably a digital one that is HD ready - not quite what you wrote!

Ah right, got all that but have just done a postcode search which shows that we can't get Freeview yet. I knew it was something to do with the transmitter but didn't know the rest.
So it looks like we should buy another STB (!), another LNB and a length
of suitable cable with end bits?.

You will need for the bedroom assuming you want to watch HD on your HD TV.. an HD stb, a quad lnb and cable and connectors

Several small Dishes.
Much else.

Not forgetting Lidl .................. sometimes they have cheap, cheerful, yet effective Satellite stuff (but don't buy a "suitcase" kit as the dish is too small).
