Hi.

I'm wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I've upgraded my 49 inch Samsung HD TV to a 70 inch LG one. The previous one did all the FREESAT HD channels perfectly but the new one can't show BBC1 HD, BBC2 HD and ITV1 HD - it pixellates terribly, other HD channels tend to be OK - 5 HD is perfect, as is RT HD.... Another issue is that it has problems with showing and changing channels from the inbuilt guide saying 'Preview is not available since programme information is currently being downloaded. Do you want to switch to the programme?'

The TV manufacturer is saying that it is an issue with the satellite signal not being good enough to a bigger screen size (which according to the new TV is: Strength 100%, Quality 83%). Whilst the people that installed the satellite dish 8 years ago say that if the channels were fine with the old TV then the problem must be with the new TV. I have tried the old TV again and it works fine. I've done a 'factory reset' on the new TV which didn't make a difference and I've changed the cable from the wall unit to the TV, also no improvement.

Does anyone have any advice, especially in terms of determining if it is a problem with the TV or the Satellite setup.

many thanks in advance,

Matt.

They're talking rubbish. It can only be the new television.

Could it be the tuner of the new tv being less sensitive compared to the old tv? In combination with a not so accurately pointed satellite dish?

Just thinking out loud...

No, unless you have damaged the incoming F Plug connection to the new TV there should be no difference to the input sensititvity between the two screens (though you might be able to find this in the manual of each set under 'tuner specifications').

Forget what the manufacturer is telling you, unless you work for them, deal only with the seller. Did they deliver it to you or did you pick up ?
Did the delivery include fitting and tuning in ?

Hi Channel Hopper and Stevenvc19,

many thanks for your advice. It was delivered so we are minded to have the seller replace the set to see if that sorts out the issue.

My Toshiba TV satellite tuner is useless compared to my Technomate Nano.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Might be better off just buying a cheap but decent (many here can advise on that!) dedicated sat tuner settop box which would have periodic updated firmware - whereas the LG (or other!) TV probably won't get many (if any!).

Also, you'd probably find it easier to use than the sometimes complicated sat control sequences on TVs.

Hi.

Well I got Currys (who provided great customer service BTW) to replace the 'problem' TV with a new one. Unfortunately exactly the same issue with the new TV... I asked him as he was packing up the old one whether he had any of this model returned and he said 'no'... so doesn't look like a TV design failure...

Aside from getting out a sat dish engineer next week, anybody have any ideas :)

thanks!

Matt.

Some Lnb's don't get on with some tuners sometimes , so it could be that .. also cable . some tuners are more sensitive .. a kink or a split somewhere ..

Hi.

Had the satellite guy come out and he says that the original LNB was faulty. Not sure why the previous TV worked OK with it but there you go. With the new LNB we are getting all the HD channels now.

Thanks for all your advice and views.

Matt.

Then it is a compatibilty or sensitivity issue.

Do you know what LNB was swopped out, and what replaced it ?

Hi Channel Hopper.

On the receipt he said that he did a LNB investigation and found that the LNB was faulty. I'm not sure what the new one is, but the old one is a Zinwell model SKY J4LS Quad.

thanks,

Matt.

Strange, i have a 49" LG 4k tv, just fitted a new Quad LNB, and all the HD channels are perfect, although, ive tuned it Through other operators, rather than freesat, so i can get Channel 4HD
