Friend popped over with a gift for me, his dad was going to throw out a Tek 2215 so he thought I'd like it.
Not the greatest Tek made but it doesn't seem a bad little CRO. And I couldn't let him throw it out!

I've been using an ancient HP 1741A for a while after I sold my Rigol DS2302 300MHz DSO, I prefer analogue CRO's anyway.

The interesting thing about this scope is, it has never been used! It's a British Telecom badged unit and has the original "Post Office (PO)" branded mains plug.
This particular scope was manufactured in 1983 was never used and has just sat in storage since!

The manuals and 10:1 P6120 probes were still sealed in their packaging, the CRT is lovely and bright, also very crisp but hard to see on this picture as my phone won't focus on the CRT.

Interestingly this has A TV Field mode too.20180914_200702.jpg

Ive got some old (used) CRO's in store at work. I think they are ex-BT as well.

These were getting chucked in the skip and as I cant bear to see working kit thrown out I grabbed them and shoved them at the back of my storeroom.

I'll try to remember to take some pics next week. Will have to move some junk computer kit awaiting collection first though! :D
Move that and the scopes to the house/shed...

Even I dont have any conceivable use for 20 or 30 heavily stripped 12 year old RM computer base units, (most with no psu's!) / 2 15 year old classroom SmartBoard with failed touch surfaces, numerous dead printers (worn out), an incredible number of positively ancient withdrawn classroom projectors, a dozen or so broken monitors, and boxes & boxes of old toners from the printers...

All of which are awaiting collection for junking / recycling when HQ finally gets its act together to give me an uplift...... The toners were uplifted by a company fairly regularly but I discovered they only wanted the oem stuff & the remanufactured stuff (90% of our collection) was being junked so I told them not to bother contacting me again. :D

Oh RM crap, any of it the old 186 based CPU? Bit of an oddity that system.
Now if you had a 380Z or 480Z!

We had loads of RM Nimbus 186's in store when I started at the place 20 years ago - they all went up the tip a very very long time ago.

Strangely enough there is actually a 380Z in the building - its supposedly a treasured item in the computing dept, although when I saw it yesterday it was shoved on a shelf with books piled on top of it! It predates me starting there, and I keep threatening to take it on one last journey to the scrapyard :-rofl2

The heaps cluttering up my store room are Ascend 2020's & 3030's in this form:
Capture.JPG

Capable enough in their day - but tired and well past their best now. Ive managed to keep a few of the 3030s going around the school on the main network with some tlc & heavy refurbishment back in 2012. At the same time the best of the lower spec 2020s were refurbed as standalones in the music dept & the really poor ones awaiting collection were used as parts donors to keep them running.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Ref the TEK and HP CROs:

I simply don't have the space for a CRO, but have a hankering for some sort of small/cheap, but capable, dual-channel DSO with a decent b/w - any suggestions (price limit would be around £250ish, new or s/h)?

Rigol DS1054Z and then add the keys from "Riglol" (google it) to turn it in to the full bandwith model, they are all the same internally the 1000 range, just options activated by keys.

I used to look after a lot of RM kit in schools, some really bizarre server stuff, MS LANMAN and the odd RM Network/server management stuff and the old 10BASE2 Coax networks!

I'd love a 380Z, something about them.

Thanks - looked into the Rigol, and the "hack" - sounds interesting but maybe a little over-budget ATM. Will keep that in mind nevertheless:)

That Tek scope looks pretty nice, makes my Caltek scope with its' dull screen look cheap, probably cos it is... :-lmao

Look at the 2nd hand market or push the budget up slightly. Everything else in that price range is crap, the Rigol although a Chinese brand is a proper scope and they get lots of praise, my DS2000 Series was amazing but could not justify it.

Another CRO owner! Interesting little scope that. Never seen one before :)

I'm a sillyscope newbie, went for the cheapest I could get 2nd hand (sold as faulty because of the dull screen), single channel thing, not very advanced, and the same model comes under a few different "eastern" brands, so pretty cheap stuff really...

The CRO I used at BT in the 80's seemed to spend a lot of time travelling between exchange and home when I was making a colour TV. The Heathkit CRO I had then was of course useless for lining up the colour circuitry. I believe it was a Tektronics 2215.

My present 'scope is a Hameg 60MHz which I've had for many years, and still does service for the majority of projects.

The youtuber Electroboom has been promoting a rather compact digital scope as of late, I'll try to find a link.

Since people are mentioning scopes I have a couple in the shed, one is really old, probably late 50s and needs a serious strip down and clean. The other I would hazard a guess at being mid 80s, a Tektronix 7603 that has served me well for well over 20 years.
General Specification here.
