Anyone else wow'd by the Gemini image? I installed it yesterday evening on my DB7K hard disk (using flashwizardpro) and I must say how impressed I am.

I have been using Hydra images since I first got my DB7K, had a play with Peter Pan which I liked too.

But the Gemini image blows them all out of the water IMHO.

Stable, feature rich, motor turns properly, intuative downloading of 'goodies' etc

If you can, give it try ....

Oh. I had a problem installing anything (keys/plugins/cams etc) as the system would erronously report no space in /var. Yuo can switch this warning off and all is OK.

Yes, it's excellent. A well-kept secret!

I found the downloading menus a bit messy on my 1.02, as you can download keys from two different menu options :confused

Getting used to the retro look. Love the video shuttle options!

Like the on screen menu with all the encryptions and audio settings etc. Recent poll puts Gemeni way ahead of hydra. Ps how do you update control panel.

I have also put Gemini on multiboot a couple of days ago and have to
say it seems alot more stable than Hydra.
*John Graydon, Blue button-Addons Settings-Download & Install-Then pick
from the download menu.
Those of you still waiting on Hydra this is well worth a look and if you
have a USB Stick or HD you can have both on multiboot using Flashwizard.

Hydra going down got me to looking around for an alternative, so Gemini has replaced Zeus on my 5620. First time I've used Flash Wizard Pro (thanks for the tip John Graydon) and it was a doddle - up and running with 5 sats in 15 minutes or so, with all stored settings restored.

It seems a good image on first impressions - I can't find out how much space there is on /var however - is it tucked away in the menus and settings?

Found that myself, but you have much more because of the 5 sats. Shows you how much you are going to load but thats it. Fairly good though At the moment. Edit the channels and you get more.

This image does not contain any keys, cam's or plugins!

Image runs in Flash, hdd, CF and USB Stick.
For installing on USB, HDD or CF we recommend the original 1.08.2 beta from DMM in Flash

Interesting, poll of images used on the "I have a dreambox" site shows votes
Gemini 35%
Hydra 14%
I have a dreambox 13%
ruDREAM 13%
nothing else close.
Remember Germans use DB a lot for official PW cards.

Yeah, it's a bit fiddly. I couldn't find a way of doing it from either Gemini or Zeus menus. I think that if you have a USB stick, then it's better to put a basic image in flash (although I have zeus) and a whole new image on USB (and of course it's 'unlimited' var).

Of course this way, when you knacker your image, you can boot to flash and rebuild. Even just pull out the stick, and you're up and running again.

running Gemini in flash (which I'm gonna leave) & Gemini on USB now (which is the one I'm gonna use).

I'm starting to really like this image - it seems so much more stable for me.

As other people have mentioned - I do find key downloads slightly confusing.

Mary's gets you some channels - NewCamd keys gets you others.....

Anyone got a clean 'Hydra alike' skin? I can't find any I like........

Agreed - I find the updating and downloading a bit more confusing than Hydra - possibly because there are more options.

I also find that some channels take 10 - 20 seconds to open or clear, but only sometimes. the next time I go to that channel it opens immediately.

I'm almost sure that, even if you put an image in usb stick or hdd, addons are stored in flash.
In Hydra you have in their c-panel (green button) : "Setup addons"; there you can choose where to put them: hdd or usb stick

Yeah, if you FTP to your box, you will see that the USB image correctly manages its file resources in its own USB /var directory, absolutely fine. Also easy to copy cams and keys from one image to another with FTP.

I found there were a few useful sub-menus in Gemini for fiddling with addons, but not too many (... and I can't remember what they are now!).

Also found a neat way to clean up the uninstall menu options after I corrupt mine.

The script to remove an addon (CAM's, keypacks etc.) is in the /var/uninstall dir, and you can safely delete the options that are no longer required, or even edit them and replace. They are easily understood.

I'm going to stick with Gemini for now (I'm going to add 103 to my 102). It's much neater, the download still works (but it's slow to start sometimes) and it uses a standard implementation of CAMS, esp. NewcamD (my fave) which you can easily update manually (unlike the Hydra images - struggled with the 5.26 to 5.27 upgrade, but then I was very tired).
