Hi all, I've just put up a 80cm dish with a twin headed monobloc LNB combined with a "Strong Primasat II" decoder (not TNT), I'm on Astra1 19.2E which is where Im told I need to be to get French TV (here in France) but all I'm getting is German channels, any pointers as to where I'm going wrong, any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

You're on the right satellite but you need a subscription of some sort. Either Canalsat or TNT... FTA stuff is available on 5w but you need a multistream capable receiver.

Welcome to the Forum,
Nearly all French TV is encrypted @ 19.2 east & 5 west,

There are some FTA French TV @ 5 west but you will need a Multi-Stream satellite receiver,
FlySat Eutelsat 5 West A @ 5° West

I can get FTA French tv with my Octagon SX-88 but I have no sound other Multi-Stream TV on this satellite Italian ect works OK sound & vision.

This one may suit your needs OCTAGON SF4008 4K UHD E2 Triple 2160P DVB-S2X H.265 HEVC

Many thanks, help appreciated. Thought it to good to be true as Canal+/TNT boxes are 100-120 euros and this complete kit was 50 !!

Many thanks, help appreciated. I'll probably just bite the bullet and buy a TNT box, cheers.

TNT 19E requires the card to be replaced every 4 years. You might consider Fransat on 5W where the cards theoretically dont expire (but the first sets of cards issued have recently been turned off). If you want a slightly better channel selection then a basic BIS subscription (13E) is about €100 to set up then €60 renewal every year.

If you put your address details in here - TNTtest : test de couverture TNT en France

It should tell you about what terrestrial TNT transmitters are available, and which direction to point the antenna. At least you’ll know whether it’s possible then!

Also look at the internet options. I pay 20€ per month to get Alice internet in Provence and they supplied a TV decoder as part of the deal.

I tested it once but I can't remember how many channels I got on the basic inclusive deal. You have to pay extra for the premium channels.

There are three French FTA HD channels from Eutelsat 9E under Suisse 12034V. I used to receive them and they were very good.
But you are lucky as you are able to subscribe to Canal+ France they have excellent channels especially movies and general entertainment.
The Bis package isn't worth it IMHO.
Good luck and enjoy it we only live once.
Eutelsat 9B & Ka-Sat 9A at 9.0°E - LyngSat

Just looked at the Strong Primasat II spec. It is for FTA channels only. I hope that you can return it to the shop and buy something else they would be glad to do that if you upgrade to something more expensive.

if you have an internet provider(usually Orange,Sfr or Free ,or bouygues) they will supply a modem and a "box"(= "la box" in French) which gets you channels over the Internet ,at least the freeview ones and usually some more for free and others at a premium service;
Orange has good ones, not many,Freee has lots of low value ones ,but all providers will supply basic ones(25 channels="la TNT") enquire locally; in neck-of the woods places Orange is usually more reliable ,Free is for the urban crowds;forget bouygues
