Getting ITV in Ireland...and then not!

Hi!

I got sky digital installed last November here in Dublin, Ireland. I asked the installer at the time if he would install any other channels available that weren't on the EPG. He put the BBC channels and loads of ITV channels (not UTV though) on it and I was able to view them all without any problem. I couldn't view the four Irish channels on 101-104, however, and kept getting "this program is not available" (or something similar). The name of the Irish channels was down the bottom alright. After several calls to sky they finally managed to get the Irish channels activated after sending out a 'super strength' signal as the first ones they sent didn't work BUT I now can't access the ITV channels! Anyone know why this happened? Is there any way to get ITV back on my card? I rang sky but the operator said they don't support the extra channels feature and so I gave up on them.

Thanks in advance for any help!

This is interesting!

It sounds like the card was partially authorised as if it was a UK card, enabling you to view the encrypted ITV programmes, whilst presumably your Irish programmes were installed at 101 to 104 and couldn't be viewed as the card didn't have the right information.

Unfortunately, now that the card has been put right the ITV programmes are now not decryptable. AFAIK this is the way that it's meant to be.

I know, it's weird! I've read about buying those freeview cards etc but I hadn't heard of anyone having my experience. I'm wondering if the installer put in some code to be nice or something? If I had known that others couldn't get ITV here in Ireland I'd never have rang sky about the Irish channels being missing. I can always get them with a small aerial though my reception isn't brilliant. It seems it's too late now unless anyone has any ideas?

I'm afraid you're now stuck with the Irish channels Phoenix. You need a UK sub to see ITV etc, the only other option is a FTV card which you can buy on Ebay or get a British relative to send you over. Then you just swap around the cards depending on what you want to see.I know a guy with a FTV card for sale, let me know if you're interested.
