Has anyone got any spare AN8002 transceiver units for sale? (cheap;-) They are made by Gilat but seem to be rebranded as part of Tooway & other systems. I don't need the polariser or feed and non working units may still be useful (depending on what's broken). They turn up on Ebay sometimes which is where I've sourced a couple.

Only Ku units here, but I would be interested in the operating specification of the Ka unit, voltage requirement and power consumption under operation if you have them to hand.

The RX side takes 103mA at 15V and maintains more or less constant power consumption (~1.5W) as the voltage is changed. Looking at the output noise, their coverage doesn't look like it extends much beyond the stated range of 19.2-20.2G. I don't know how to talk to the TX to get it to turn on in it's normal operation. It takes about 25mA at 15V in standby. The LO frequencies can be seen on the pic but the oscillators are at 1/2 frequency. They say 2.5W RF out and that is consistent with the output device.

Thanks, is there anything in the manual ?

I'm looking specifically at total electrical consumption under full operation (transmit / receive).

Of course this will be less than total delivery of the supplied PSU, last time I looked at Ka uplinking the supply had a spec of 24V and 2.5A, but I know they were trying to limit the voltage to 14V so they could be used on mobile circuits.

Sorry, I don't have any info. I got them for their component parts and only have info from the web (which isn't much). If you can tell me how to get the TX going, I'll try. I'm guessing it may need a frequency reference as well as the IF drive which must be in the range 1.7-2.3GHz. I can supply that but does it need any control signals? If so, that's more of a problem. I also have problems measuring anything >26GHz.

Ah, for transmit on the older Gilat equipment, the modem had to be authorised by the provider with a key. Under installation and fine tuning the uplink part is disabled, for safety requirements.

I don't have the indoor unit so need to know what signals are sent to the ODU or some way to force it on. I could try sticking something at 2GHz up it but it looks like the TX PLL reference is itself locked to an external reference. It's likely that if anything is unlocked the TX will be disabled and there are other interlocks to protect against supply failures that could damage the amplifiers. I could not work out how to turn the internal power on so gave up and just directly powered that sections of circuitry I wanted.

I doubt you are going to succeed, in the back of my head I remember a sync indicator on the modem, that would only light up after the boot up process, whilst the modem is being cleared for access to the network, which is the point at which the SSPA part would turn on.

I wouldn't turn another one down but I think I've got all I want. Please close. Thanks.

It would be good to know the detail that fixed the issue - no switching on - or whether you have an alternative workaround.
