Is it possible to change a digi box's id to that of another digi box??

This is what my next project is and basically you could call it cloning a sky box.

I want to change the information stored in the box that holds the data for its id. This will allow an unpaired box to trick a sky card into thinking it is safe in its home.

It has to be possible to get at this information. It is held in the box and gets processed to screen on request, therefore it is availible. As sky's program code for the menu's ect. is relatively the same on all platforms I am fairly sure that this way of changing the id could work on all boxes.

I just want to take my learning to the next level, its purely educational and somewhat a hobby. I can see my next logical step being connecting a digi box to my PC, any information on this would be great.

Please if it's not constructive, don't post a reply.

All information is welcome

Well I guess that it has to be possible, as the number is put there in the first place, whether it is possible without removing the relevant chip from the board is another question. I'm sure that it has been tried on many occasions, but i have never heard of it being done. :)

Relevant details should be in the flash memory chip.

Check the NDS section of _http://colibri.de.ms/ for details of old Pace digibox flash dumps, and a digibox tool for reading the flash chip.

Pannys have a different chip (AT29LV160). A spec sheet is available here -

http://www.datasheets.org.uk/search.php?q=29LV160&sType=part

Should be possible to JTAG the MN2WS20002AD eeprom, if you can trace the JTAG connections. Unfortunately there's a dearth of info on this chip.

Would this be used for cardsharing? Cos if it's to have 2 boxes with the same sub, it might be a tad difficult to copy the card cos they're as secure as a tin of soup with no tin opener.... :D

Oh i know the the cards are secure alright, I gave up modifying the cards along time ago, think when digital hit the scene. All I want to is use the same card in numerous boxes and have the card think it is in the same box all along.

Thanks for the replies and the useful links. I am trying to stay away from flashing to save crashing boxes and getting a build up of expensive paper weights. The method I am looking for will be simple yet universal. I am looking at intercepting the code that tells the card what box's id is and modifing it to show the id of the box the card is paired with. It will be a mathematic calculation that processes and converts the data so a simple/logical formula should have it licked.

I have an angle that ive started to work on using a 9 pin female to female null modem cable. But I am still in the very early days.

I will keep you posted, many thanks again guys.

I cant understand this I have 2 boxes and only 1 card and sometimes move the card from one box to another with no problems.

One is a Pace from about 2000 and the other a Thomson from about 2004. Sometimes the Thomson says "wrong card" but I just change channel and all is OK.

I have heard lots of people saying that a card is married to a box but I have never found this:confused

Cards are only married to boxes for the premium (sports & movies) channels Family Pack channels will work with the card in any box.

The box id's on sky boxes can be changed - but it involves flash dumps from eeprom chips and thousands of ££'s worth of specialised equipment to read the chips

thanks that explains it then. so if you did have a "locked" card would you be able to watch the other channels with the card in another box but not the movie/sports.

Nice to see the server is working again :)

I'm glad I dont have movies or sport, would make things to complicated.
