Sorry i should have described it better, i would only put a pole up at the back which would add about 15m to the run

here is a pic of my old dish on the front of my house:

I appreciate that the L bracket you have is very sturdy, but it still may be subject to a slight amount of downward flexing with the extra weight. Personally, I think that a T&K set up (which wouldn't need a long pole between the brackets) would look better and be stronger than your current arrangement.

While the 1.2 Gibby dish face is relatively light, the bracketry on it, which is steel, adds a lot of weight. It's a heavy overall beast.

I would be hesitant putting this up on a DiSEqC motor.....

That said, I did have it on a Stab and then the Moteck (as it has a wider range) up on a wall for a few years without issues. But like others said, it has to go up on a TK arrangement - you'll sleep much better at night. You don't want this falling on someone's head!

Replacing the bracket or not, does that explain why he cannot get any signal, even on the directly neighbouring satellites?
If the motor setup is just a bit off, at least he should have reception on those.

I would check and double check the motor setup, from scratch, and use the tips given in earlier in this thread.

And posting a couple of images showing side and front aspect. A quick visual by an expert could provide an instant solution, should one register on the forum at some point.

I'd be very surprised if that bracket was still vertical once a 1.2 Gibby had been hung off the front of it, as others have said they're a heavy beast in total and IMO too heavy for a diseqc motor. I had mine on a Darkmotor or whatever they were called and it wasn't strong enough to move the dish up from the extremes of the arc.

If you can rig up something in the back garden to give you a vertical pole you'll find it a lot easier to set it all up at ground level then transfer it to the pole out the front. Having tweaked mine for every last drop of signal from end to end I have to say that I doubt you'll manage to get optimum performance from it if you've removed the declination bolt. Relying on poking the dish up and down hoping it wont slip on the three bolts through the rear bracket doesn't allow fine enough adjustments if you are after perfect results.

Probably already been said but at the risk of repetition..
And increase in dish size requires even more accuracy ..
So ..If the original dish was slightly out of position in any respect ..you might still get acceptable results...BUT..
a larger dish would effectively magnify these errors ..resulting in even more inaccuracy ..
just a thought..
If it were me ..I'd refer to the earlier setup check list ..and start from scratch..
A good meter would definately help here..

I have now added the fine tuning rod back into the mix and it has knocked everything out of position again

What brand is the motor ?
AFAIK ..

You have 2 major problems with your set up as mentioned change that bracket for a T & K for stability,
Once you have got a good signal on 0.8 west Thor-5 12418 V 28000,

Then as also mentioned here the bigger the dish the more directionally focused your reception signal so a more accurate setting is required,

So for a more accurate set up your Reference satellite is ABS-3A @ 3° West
You should hopefully get this transponder 12517 V 2222 Hellas Sat test card.

I hope this helps you.

Not the best of brackets. Too much movement. Two piece TK would suit better ;)

You have a choice of 3 satellites to choose as your reference satellite 0.8 west,3 west or 5 west,
Liverpool, United Kingdom latitude/longitude in my opinion 3 west is best for a dish over 100cm,

My reference satellite is Intelsat 10-02 @ 1 west for 51.8° Latitude North, 0.1°Longitude East so my reference satellite is o.7 degrees from my actual Longitude,
Whereas your choice of 0.8 west & 5 west is 2 degrees from your actual Longitude,
So it will be beneficial too you to use 3 west if you can receive it,
When you have tweaked the dish it will be a doddle.

My iPhone gives me my latitude and longitude close enough for me to work out my zenith satellite.

On iPhone it's in the compass mine says I am -2.3° w so I would also use 3°w as zenith.

Hellas Sat test card on 3 West is 10.3 dB with me this evening. I'm 6.4 West 54 North, 1.1 m dish.

I haven't looked at 3 West for a while. Hellas Sat used to vary in signal strength a lot, as low as 3 dB and as high as 14 from memory. It might be worthwhile checking here what signal should be expected, if and when it is being used to align the dish.

Whenever I check the posted images I get a lot of women hanging off the sides.

Is your mount really up to it ?
