Are a load of bow locks!!! :D

My old Cambridge LNB is HD ready, and it was made years before HD was even an idea!!! People have to be rather dim to be sucked in by these LNBs which are sold as "HD LNBs".... :-rofl2

It is pretty typical of many ebay box shifters, they know little or nothing of what they are selling, simply how to get hold of it cheaply, so see no problem with calling the product whatever they think it is. ;)

Yes they are, but what they are not is "HD LNBs" . ;)

Speaking of "Digital LNBs", even the manufacturers were at it too, my salvaged 80cm dish has a Grundig LNB on it and on the label it clearly says "Digital LNB".... :confused

I'd love to find a manufacturer that can tell me the difference between Universal, "Digital" and "HD" LNBs... :-rofl2

The LNBs designed for digital reception produced a flatter waveform I believe, I asked an expert at the time and that is what I seem to remember he told me. :)

Improvements in the oscillator (DRO) stability meant they didn't drift so much. This wasn't so much of a problem with analogue, as the channel's bandwidth was much wider, allowing for greater tolerances in the oscillator's off-frequency drift.

LOL, I remember my old SMW LNB was under suspicion when it apparently started to wander off frequency with my analogue Echostar SR8700, making it possibly useless for the coming digital services. I had to keep adjusting the Echostar's tuner oscillator to keep even strong channels sparkle - free.

However, connecting up the LNB to my first digital STB, there was no trace of drift. I had to put it down to a faulty AFC circuit in the Echostar.

You could adjust the Local oscillator of the Echostars by a few MHz either way, by apparent adjustment of the PLL synthesized lock in the chipset (ST ?). Bugger all help in the summer though when the temperature of the LNB changed some 20 degrees between night and day.

Most digital receivers have a different method of lock, working in conjunction with the filter(s) in the tuner, the software within the demod circuitry, and the transponder being viewed, able to 'go with the flow' of almost any LNB playing up.
Doesn't seem to be the same with Sky boxes (especially after dish trauma) though for some strange reason.

CH, Philips chips were the order of the day in Echostars then (SAA1057 PLL frequency synthesiser) controlled by Philips' I2C bus.

Same system was used in TV's, Radios before satellite came on the scene, but can't remember if there was any software method of user adjustment of the LO in those (?).

...although, thinking about it, they wouldn't need adjusting, not having to deal with wandering LNB oscillators... :-doh2
