Has anyone bought a meter that can demodulate/display MPEG4 and 8PSK signals yet? How much use do you get out of this function (considering these units generally cost around £2000 more than their SD counterparts)? And how long will it be before QPSK transponders disappear altogether making such meters a necessity?

Looking at the software upgrade for DVB-S2 measurements on the H45. Might be useful to have this function.

5990, to be upgraded to 5991. If budget allows then possibly, that's possibly a 5992 upgrade :D

Well the 5991 upgrade should demodulate MPEG4 on the next release, don't think it'll display though. Having said that, I don't think I need that at present, I have enough confidence in the meter measurements. I'm sure it'll be a long time before QPSK disappears.

What does that involve? Is it purely a software upgrade or are there hardware modifications too? If it's the former it sounds like a rip off.

That's what I've been told too.

It seems there are new options to visualize MPEG4 contents in Televes H45 series. They can upgrade from any unit with hardware extensions. Talk with your distributor.

The upgrade is listed at 1150€ + IVA. All in you are looking at over 3500€ for the Compact (with the upgrade) and about a grand more for the Advance.

Which is much less than the £2000 for the initial difference between SD and HD.

I don't know where you get those figures. The difference was around 400€ between the 5990 and the 5991. I think you are talking the difference between the Compact SD and the Advance.

Just to complicate it a bit more there are now two upgrade options (as of last month). The 5991 upgrade, which costs 450€, allows the Compact to demodulate DVB-S2 signals. The 5997 upgrade, also known as the "Full HD" upgrade allows decoding of MPEG4 data and costs 1150€. The "Full HD" upgrade is for both the Compact and the Advance as neither can decode MPEG4. I guess that puts the price of the Advance with MPEG4 capability somewhere around the 5000€ mark.
