Hi guys!
I having so much fun with my dreambox,
but there are still one or two little issues annoying me...

1. My HD recordings have some image problems.
Audio is OK, while video is rahter often hanging up
for 1 or two seconds to continue normally after this awful moments.

2. Moreover some recording I did, simply hangs up after 1 or two minutes
to remain with a still image until the end of the movie. Very disgraceful.

I think that's not the same problem, but I'm not sure.

For the 1., I didn't set up a swap space in my HD until now :-bash . May this be the cause of it?
About the 2., maybe the HD is not error free... not so uncommon with Maxtor stuff...!!

Any suggestion?

Has anyone else had the same problems.

Thaks SO MUCH guys for your help.

Zurli, the magician :elf

Mmm, tricky.

Try reformatting your disk. May have duff sectors, or be fragged to death.

Try updating your cams and keys.

Also you could try to improve the cooling to your box.

Can also be caused by poor signal of course. Check it by pressing the info button twice in VERY quick succession, and scrolling right.

See what the BER figure is while you're there.

Is it worse on some channels?

HTH.

just modified AU parameter, I will make a test...

About formatting, I've already tried, no result.
BER looks good, signal olso looks ok.

I just updated all the stuff, I will check if it is better...

test done, no improvement.

in effect the problems doesn't look the same for all the channels:

Problem 1 is visible on a xyz channel .
SNR 81, AGC 54/55, BER 0

Problem 2 occurred on M*****. In this case the recording is smooth (no problem 1 effect)
SNR 84/86 AGC 55/56 BER 0

I think that recording sotware has problems when it meets disk errors.
In fact after 2 minutes the image of the movie is freezed, and I have a recorded 2,5 GB file with the still image: not so funny.
Precision: with some of the movies the recording is OK.
With two other movies it freezed.

I think I have at least two bad sectors on my HD.

I'd prefer to avoid formatting. Is there any linux checkdisk utility to run on DB?
Does somebody know about such kind of stuff??

Workaround. Leave the two corrupted movies on the HD to fix the problem, forgetting about 5 GB of space ^-F

You can run a disk check using the fsck command. Read up about it on the net. It's a standard Linux comand. I'm not an expert, but I used to run it on a PC based Linux image I had, and it worked fine. My problem turned out to be a suspect disk!

Any hint of a bad disk and you should just replace it.

There is an fsck utility for both ext2 and ext3 formats on my Zeus image.
