I am currently looking into buying a High Defination TV but I'm confussed on certain things; I have made a list of questions for people to answer and for people to use as a guide for buying HD TV, so here goes;

1. LCD or Plasma??

2. Size; 32" 37" 40" 42" or other sizes??

3. Should I go for well known make or does it matter??

4. What make is the best?? (eg.. Sony, Philips, Pioneer)

5. Is the make Acoustic Solutions a good make??

6. Price Range - what is a decent and affordable price??

7. Any other things to look out for>>

8. Any more tips/ questions (please add)

1.Depends on what size TV you want, plasma if your going big
2.As above
3.Read reviews,somewhere like this:http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/
4.Thats upto personel opinion
5.Acoustic Solutions, can't say i've heard of them but that doesn't mean to say they're no good.
6.A dear price doesn't always reflect in decent quality, bear that in mind
7.HDMI inputs,progressive scan,contrast ratio,higher the better,
8.Haggle!!

I´d bought a lcd bravia 40w2000, 8 / 9 months ago and it´s quite good. The prices on lcd FullHD are much better now.
Look at other manuf s like philips, pioneer (plasmas) and ... sharp.
TDT ready and HDMI connections are necessary and a good native contrast racio (1600:1 on lcds) not only the dinamic contrast ratio.

for this price, the better choice is the new 2nd generation of Panasonic (plasma) TH-42PX70E. In this size or mor, It's much better than LCD(and cheaper). I've readen also many revisions and comparations and decided me for this one. You can read more at ***hdtvtest.co.uk (a very useful site). for now the most better or top is a new full-hd 50" Panasonic Plama, but the price, wow.....'upa upa' I think the quality/price relation it's better for panasonic than pioneer (more expensive). sony bravia LCDs (including the full-hds) are not comparable...put both side-by-side and compare. I did it and I chosed. good luck.

Panasonic has a 37' plasma too. You should in consideration the Philips LCDs too. It's a really good choice too. but in other sizes (smallers) Actually it's the best LCD in europe. I don't know about the prices, but it's easy to compare at the same site I've send it.

Dont forget the running costs, plasma used to be hefty in power usage, not sure if its better now. We have 2 Toshiba 32" and 0ne 42" great tv's. But its down to personal choice.:)

The running costs are very similar. Remember, lcds backlight is always on with more or less intensity, on plasma it's a per pixel thing. Japanese plasmas are more energy eficient and all round better in almost every way. I'd recommend the PY or PX series from panasonic. For lcds i would go for a 100hz model, sony, sharp, panasonic... have very good ones. Philips is great but pricey and ambilight doesn't make miracles.
