Approx 1 hour ago we had a brief power cut ..
about 2 seconds at most...
but it was enough to set every alarm in the area wailing ..
including mine ..

which sadly did not re-set ...
a neighbour brought it to my attention that it was driving her nuts ..
so ..went home and checked ..
The normally illuminated panel was dark ...even after restoring the mains which had tripped.
I opended up the cover and pulled the main fuse..thus removing any power to the pcb ..
This stopped the internal noise ...but triggered the oudoor 'bell box to run oscillate at a different rate.
I know this external box has it's own battery supply so I guess it would eventually have run flat ...but so as to appease the neighbours ..got the ladders out and climbed up to open the bell box and pull it's battery.
So ..it could well be the main pcb is damaged ..but more likely the internal alarm battery needs changing (12v 2.1AH) ..
I removed it and inspected it ..and conclude it looked a bit sick ..having a warped and slightly blistered outer shell ..
So got one of these sealed lead acids on order cost around £15 ..which might get it up and running again ...
But I will need a service manual to reset everything..
Can anyone help ?
The unit is a good few years old
Originally purchased from CPC
Identified as Scantronic model 7448+

Anyone ?

I have just asked a person I know on the 360radar fb page, he is an alarm engineer.

I copied your message to him, this is his answer

"You could try replacing the backup battery power system up mains then battery reconnect the bell outside should reset with normal user code"

Hope it's of some help.

Examined the pcb and could not see a backup mem batt ..so maybe uses non volatile memory ..
Either way ..it has forgotten my user code ..
But having replaced the sealed gel batt ...and annoying the neighbours a bit more ..I finally got it into engineer mode ..
(found a similar manual on-line)
So ..it is now reassembled and presumeably possible to reset user codes after the tests are complete.
The main thing atm is it isn't constantly sqawking...
..and whilst I had the ladders out I have reattached the loose lnb assy that was hanging by a thread under the TD110 ..
Just hope there are no more serious winds any time soon..

Yeah, but, no but, she'll screech like a banshee even without a battery at all.

And there's NO WAY of turning her off!

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Alarm batteries!

A few years ago, our system went into very LOUD shrieking mode - and, with the sounder in the hall, I had to get out the tools, rip the cover off and cut one of the wires to the sounder - relative "bliss". Then had to wait for the ADT engineer to come and reset the system properly - but he was glad that I hadn't just ripped the box off the wall, as one customer had done, and he then found that the breaker supplying the control box, which has the back-up gel battery in it, had tripped and that battery had gone flat and triggered the sounder (battery was still OK, but he replaced it anyway).

Quite a few other problems over the years - notably with the wireless connections between the sensors, and especially the one in the conservatory, and the control unit. Generally these were quickly fixed by the ADT engineers, except the last time when the first guy replaced the conservatory sensor but it still didn't work correctly, and it was only the 3rd (4th?) guy who finally found out that the replacement had also been faulty - and he was not very "complimentary" about his predecessors not actually twigging that that replacement was duff!
