help for newbie needed

I have just bought a DB 500s. I have flashed the hydra zues 500 image using the serial null modem cable. I have checked the image on TV and everthing is good.

However I am at a loss when it comes to putting scam or newcamd or any other keys into the DB. I have tried reading the stickys....but I just cant get it.

Can someone please be patient and kindly assist me in my next steps on how I get the emus into the box....do i use my serial null modem cable?

by the way at this present moment I only have a serial null modem cable.

You need some additional files. You could also do with another 'cat5e' Fast Ethernet cable. Desperately!

What sort of network do you have, or do you just have a PC?

That will determine which cable.

Internet connection? Router/ADSL?

cant get onto toes at the moment to see the reply.

1) I will buy an ethernet cable tomorrow

2) I just have a pc...no network

3) I have a 1MB broadband connection with AOL, using the ADSL modem.

4) No router

....Still cant get onto to toes yet to see the reply......but thankyou for helping me guys....I really need your support.

Hi dasty,

I've put a lot on there so I'm not going to repeat it all here.
However, if you will be using internet sharing on your PC then make sure you get a CROSS OVER Ethernet patch lead not a straight one!

Hi dasty,

No, the null modem cable is normally just used for emergencies when you've lost the ethernet connection to the box (due to some type of image failure/crash that will not recover by rebooting the box).
The only thing you can get into the box with the null modem cable is an image!
You then need to add the 'extras', either by direct download to the Dreambox or by download to the PC and then copy to the Dreambox using an FTP program.

I take it you have not yet read Klona's guide?
If direct download does not work (for any/various reasons) then it is best that you have the means and knowledge to be able to add files to the box manually. Reading a guide like Klona's will give you a good start in understanding what is involved in owning a Dreambox and keeping it going!!
