Hi, I am the least technical person you could meet and know nothing about Satelite TV but I was directed to this from from another one and was told you are all very helpfull, I have loads of questions?

I have a 1.2M dish and a sky box out in Fuerteventura in the Canaries, I was planning to subscribe to sky but have now been told 1 it is illegal and 2 it will cease out there in the next 12 months? does anyone know if this is true?

I only really want to receive everyday english channels so spoke to the BBC who tell me I can leaglly sign up for BBC prime at £70 a year so I thought great, but they sent me info on what recieives I need and I posted it on a Fuerteventrua form where someone replied that if I take up that option I need a new box and I think a new dish anyone know if thats ture?

On my last visit, I heard a rummour that one on the bar owners who has a massive satellite and still gets BBC1 is due to set up a system where by he picks up the chanells on his dish and then microwaves (or something like that) them to you after hes supplied you with a receiver and dish 1) is it legal 2) is it likely to last long as he is charging a lot for the inital set up

Finally, does anyone out there now how I can receive English channels out there without spending a fortune?

One last thin if anyone does reply, please make sure its simple I know what a dish is and I know what a box is but I have no idea about transponders etc

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give

There a are a few things you need to tell us.

1 what make digibox have you ( Panny is best )

2 Do you have a card ( sub card ) ( FTV )

Also I think your dish is too small have a look at some other peoples, maybe ask them how big is your dish.

That also works as a good chat up line.

1 I have a Grundig box I think it is a 320?

2 If you mean a card you put in the front of the box, no I dont thats what I was going to get by subscribing to Sky or alternatively the BBC

3 My dish is quite large compared to the local dishes and the same size as the rest of the Brits receivng SKY have ( I thinks its about 4 to 4 1/2 ft) but its not as large as the pubs who still receive BBC but I have been told they cost thousands

Regards

Sarah

The Sky derived BBC service comes at present with a smalle(er) dish, but you require a card to get it.

The larger dishes receive the BBC channels from a much weaker signal in the Canaries (from the same satellite position) but once you have this set up, the service is free - ie no card -, and should remain so

The BBC have to keep their signal focused in the UK when it is not scrambled for copyright legal reasons, but that does not stop hobbyists and business that make additional revenue by having the programmes, from getting it with a larger dish

hi im in tenerife. do you live on a complex? are the other residents mostly locals or brits? it could make all the difference to your options. if you do live on a complex ask the president if there are plans to erect a large dish. a lot of the complexes here are! i´ll wait for a reply before telling you the options i took, ive just changed over from a digibox to another system. yours for now rob43

Hi hope you can all help again! The news in Fuerteventura is that something is changing and we will be able to get BBC1, ITV and whatever else on our Sky boxes again. Can all you Satellites techs tell me if that is true.

Once again thanks for all your help

Sounds like a large injection of wishful thinking to me, certainly no logical reason for the providers to change from the status quo.

The only change I know of is a warning from the EU that the football rights may be widened sometime in the future, away from BSkyB.

There could of course be a plot to drag the Canaries up the African coast and park them near Biaritz.

Infinity USB programmer.
I have been installing Sat Tv in Lanzarote for the last 13 years, And now having to mop up so called specialist's work!!.
There is a chap in Fuerte' Re-transmitting BBC and ITV but he is totally ilegal and will be shut down permanantly soon. We tried to get permission to re-transmit 12 yrs ago and there was so much red tape and basically the answer was no!
The only way at the moment to get BBC etc.. is with a 3.1 prime focus dish or a 2.4, 2.7 offset as you have probably seen.
I would be patient as there is always something new around the corner.
We do offer alternate systems to Sky which is worth looking at, But dont be fooled by My "specialist" competitors as there back up service is nil!!

Hi,

I live in Fuerteventura and I found an honest description of what you need on this web page- http://www.fuerteventurapages.com/?page=tv-and-satellite-reception

I think eventually that Channel 4 may switch to the Astra 2D beam but all the other channels mentioned in the article will stay on, I think Sky know that they are getting a lot of subscriptions from people outside the UK and don't want to lose the revenue.

Regards,

Mr Happy
