Have you actually tried running the 2 sections of the lnb seperately ..
ie ..just ku ....then ...just Cband ..
I think its odd that they _have_ to be connected ...
Its got to be worth a go ...
If they can be made to work independantly ..then the external diseqc switch idea is viable..
I'd be bluddy furious if I'd bought it ...
its damned near useless ..
Grrrrr

not sure what you mean by scr ...
Does the plaza not have a diseqc switch setting in its setup menu ??

the DMX741U combined C and K/U lnb i bought a couple of years ago -- could certainly be used independently or via its inbuilt diseqc switch -- during my experiments with it i had it running on two receivers without any problems

It was very simple for me when I used the 621 having two separate satellite locations on the receiver and having the LNB setup as user with the correct LO for either C-Band or the KU band it covers.

C Band LO 5150 22hkz off
KU Band LO 10750 22khz on

Don't see the point using KU with it though it covers to small range of the KU band for Europe. You wont get anything on 5W with it.

If there are 2 outputs (f connectors on the lnb ...) ...I assume you could connect an external diseqc switch to get around the problem..
Selecting port 1 of the switch and satellite 1 @5W universal ku
Selecting port 2 of the switch and satellite listing 2 -Single 5150 lo Cband @5 west
Maybe this would work ..??

going a bit off topic here ---- but your picture reminded me of a home made combined C k/u l.n.b with diseqc switching ---- that i made once to satisfy my curiosity -- see the picture below -- its a pauxis c band l.n.b. with a darkgold k/u on the back --

and it worked better than the DMX741U that cost me a lot of money at the time (imported from the USA)---
that said though -- the k/u side was still too poor to be usefull --- l.o.l.

regards ------

you might be best try making a motorised feed assembly with a small actuator to select which feed you require on the dish c or ku band etc ?

Maybe another project for vipersan?

I have to agree about the 741 lnbf as it hardly comes close to covering the ku side on Euro sats and I too found its ku side to be inferior to other lnbs. Of all the dual c/ku lnbf that I have tried, I had the best success with the bsc622-2 which was universal so it covered all 10700-12750.

well guys a bit of success tonight i ran the coax from c band side of 621 and used the tecnomate 5000 dapci receiver and set 22khz to off with lnb setting to ocs and entered freq manually,lo and behold i got a signal not good quality but good enough to work with, found tele africa and then fitted the plate for left circular and it came booming in full quality, searched for more then changed to right hand and did the same, 11 channels tonight and really good strength. going to try to sort ku tomorrow cos no signal at all, if i have time that is, anyway it seems the manhatten doesnt like the lnb at the mo but im getting there. cheers

Where you planning to try KU at? You wont get any signal on 5W with it.

Also why are you using OCS when you should be using Single?

With the dielectric plate in it , you will get very poor KU signal .
And someware deep in my mind , i thought there was a problem with that type of lnb switching back from HOR to VERT .
Since the treshold of the switching point is to low , it stays to HOR (in my memory)

Trust is spot on with this ..
The ku part of the lnb is poor at best ...and with the dielectric plate still in ...ku will be practically non existant on every sat with the possible exception of Astra @ 28 east..

It'll work on Hot Bird and Astra 1 but barely with dielectric plate fitted on my 1.2m but as I said useless.

I've used that lnbf with great success on c band but as posted earlier ku band is iffy, that's why I have both my big dishes dedicated to one band.

Today I tested this LNB Combo model:BSC621-2D together with others to make a comparison, but only in Cband
I wrote to each LNB noise figure and year it was bought

Thanks for the comparison figures ...but a few of the channels received have me a little confused ...for example Arabsat 5A ..
I was always under the impression the _lower_ the heat figure (backround noise in kelvin) ..the better the received signal ..
This one appears to defy that logic ...but then there are other figures to take into account ..ie... gain and stability..
So I guess the old accepted idea that some lnbs do better than others in certain parts of the spectrum still hold true ..
No such thing as one size fits all ..or indeed ...the ultimate lnb.
Horses for courses I guess..
