Help with installing Digi TV Romania

Sad news! I called a satellite engineer, he tried to install the system, but after two hours he gave up. He could just not do it and recommended me to get someone specialized in installing Romanian systems.

Smartcard was OK, but I understand he could not find the satellite/transponder, etc...

Any tips, any ideas - do you know someone that I could approach in the Oxfordshire area to handle this?

Thanks.

Why don't you do it yourself, it is not too difficult.

You will get lots of help and advice here if you are willing to try.

As a start you should say what equipment you are using.

Unfortunately, I do not have the tools and skills (especially to fix this on the wall). Moreover, the technician provided the dish and the LNB. I agreed to pay him £85 fee for installation only (excluding the dish and LN:cool:, so I said to myself that's a good thing if everything goes OK.

The receiver is HSS-1120NA (Embedded Nagravision) and is supposed to work only with the Digi TV smartcard, for which I pay a monthly subscription in Romania.

My question is this - is a 80 cm dish OK to have a good reception? Is there anything I should know if I approach another installer?

I will probably have to look for a technician in the London area and pay him to come to Oxford and do the job.

Here's the configuration of the satellite for Digi TV:

Thanks for your help.

I have just checked (not too far from you) and I get a fair signal on my 80cm dish and it's pretty overcast here now. Might be a problem for you in heavy rain only.

Any competent satellite professional (or amateur) should have found 1°w in a few minutes by aligning on one of the strong transponders on Thor.

Are you sure you don't want to try yourself - you have already been ripped off once.

I would not like to try it, I better pay someone to do it as it beets me. I have some trees around and I have to mount the dish at a hight of 5 - 6 meters, don't have a ladder, etc...

And by the way, the technician did not want to accept any payment for the time spent on doing this job. However, he took back his dish and LNB which were his property - so at the moment I do not have a dish or a LNB. He said that I could buy these from him if I found them suitable and someone would like to help with installation.

Do you think it would be appropriate to check my box and smartcard on another satellite equipment to see if they work OK and then try another installer?

Many thanks

Did he say exactly what the problem was? "could not find the satellite/transponder" is not much to go on.

From what you have said so far the story does not sound credible. If you employed someone knowing they had to install a fixed dish aligned to 1°w they should have been able to do this with ease.

As to the receiver, it sounds correct as Digi Romania is in Nagra2. Unless someone else on the forum has knowledge of the HSS-1120NA (anyone?) the only way you can check it is with someone you know who has a motorised system.

He mounted the dish, aligned it to 1°w then switched on the receiver and tried to set up system, etc. On the screen it said 'no signal', then pressing other buttons it displayed 'no transponder', 'no satellite'. He then to moved the dish and tried again, same results. After about an hour he had no positive results and finally said 'I give up, I'm beaten'.

I am not knowledgeable myself on this matters, but I think I'll take the receiver and smartcard to someone who has a motorised system to check them.

OK - if you know someone with a motorised set up that should prove whether you have the correct receiver.

My view is that your installer was totally incompetent for the job he was trying to do.

I hope you get it sorted eventually, no one likes to read about this sort of story here.

Yes, 80cm should be OK for that beam on 1W, I get a good reading on everything with an 80cm (slightly further South and East), only possible problem is perhaps the trees.
