I am an absolute novice, so apologies if what I write makes no sense.

I have a 10 year old IRTE 1.2m dish which hasn't been used for quite a while.

I want to get a new LNB, actuator motor and possibly a feedhorn. I have a couple of problems with what I should be buying. With the actuator motor I am not sure what size I need. I have the old actuator arm but I am not sure where I should be measuring it, ie. from the motor to the fixed part of the arm or the full length?

With regard to the LNB and feedhorn, I am not sure if the same fittings are used with modern LNBs and feedhorns. I'm also wondering if I should keep the existing feedhorn or is there a newer better matched feedhorn for this dish. I have included pictures of the old equipment I have.

Help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Feedhorn should be fine, although I'm not sure what the tape covers, any good quality C120 LNB should do, look at the MTI, Invacom, or any of the other low noise LNBs, the actuator looks like a 24 inch version.

Thanks for your reply. The man that installed the dish and its parts ten years ago put tape on the motor and on parts of the LNB and feed horn. I took it off to see what it was covering but didn't find anything underneath. I'm just guessing that it was to prevent water damage. Does that make sense?

I've read elsewhere on the forum that the Inverto White Tech C120 is a good LNB so I think I will go with that one. I'll try a 24 inch actuator, at its current length it is just under 24 inches.

Yes, he could have put the tape on for waterproofing, but really it neads to be self amalgamating tape, not electrical tape, easy to rectify though. :)

try the inverto c120 lnb on the dish using that feedhorn you have or you could try the invacom adjustable feedhorn on the dish

also i thought with actuators you need to measure them when its fully out but 24inch seems about right

I'm going to go with the feedhorn I have to begin with and see how it goes and if the signal quality isn't great then I'll try the Invacom adjustable feedhorn. My aim is to get the Nilesat H channels.

Looking at a satellite dish store online, I see that they have the Inverto White Tech C120 LNB and the Inverto White Tech Twin C120 LNB. What's the difference and what should I get? Looking at pictures of them, I can't see how I could attach the feedhorn to a twin.

Unfortunately I am unable to measure the actuator arm at its longest length but some websites that I have looked at say that 24 inches is suitable for a 1.2m - 3.6m dish.

I will have to add self amalgamating tape to my ever growing list!

The difference with a twin is that you could connect two receivers with one lnb, or a receiver with a twin tuner.

As long as its a C120 lnb it will fit your feed perfect.

Check out ebay for inverto, you can pick them up very cheap for about £15. Or try wizard.

You would probably get away with an 18" actuator.

That dish you have is an excellent dish. Its going to depend on your location on weather your going to pull in the H`s on 7w.

Good luck;)

You only have a chance of that if you are south of London. If you tell us roughly where you live we will tell you roughly what size dish you will need.

Your profile isnt much help in this case - the UK is a big area!

I have updated my profile. I know that staffspeted on this forum can receive them clearly on his 1.2m and Vantage VT-X221TSCI receiver and he is not too far away from me. I'm not too keen on changing the dish but am interested to know what size you think is best where I am.

I won't be needing a twin as I will only be using a single tuner. I have had a look on ebay at Invacom feedhorns and LNBs and the prices are a lot more reasonable so I think I'll get them.

I would try the feed horn that you have with your dish 1st, as that is the matched and best focal distance for your dish.

Looking at that lnb you have there, it is old, it has a noise figure of 0.9db:-rofl2 Compared to todays .2db.
