Does the DM500s support HD Tv? If viewing the world cup (BBC) which is gonna be HD, will the DB support 720/ 1080 (I don't know if the BBC is 720 or 1080 lines) through the scart (set to component)? i.e. will the output be 720/ 1080 without an HDMI connection?

Yes but this is the Dreambox section so I won't be buying a Humax and being a cheapskate I'm looking for an alternative.

I guess could use a video card & a sound card, send the dvi signal to my PJ and the audio to my AV amp.

You should buy Humax HDCI2000 or wait for Dreambox DB8000 to be released soon.

Any idea when the DreamBox 8000 is going to be released? Hopefully the wait won't be as long as last time (DreamBox 7025 announced back in mid 2004(?), wasn't released until end of 2005!).

Don't hold your breath over the DM8000! Have DMM actually announced anything yet? Sometime late 2007 is my guess considering their track record.

Wouldn't want to beta test it either, so sometime late 2008 is when I would first consider buying it, if it's any good.

What are we going to use instead? The Humax or the Pace? Neither can record to hard disk.

So I'm left with building my own HD PVR then: mobo, processor, DVB-S2 card, hard disk, software ... (Anyone know of any good software? Can I use the same software as on the DreamBox? Maybe I can use the mobo from the DreamBox, take the thing apart and replace some of the parts with the ones I need: DVB-S2 tuner and some HD outputs (component/DVI/HDMI)?)

If vlc can decode the stream and then restream it back to the Dreambox? I can't even get it to play dvd let alone play with hidef

VLC wont be able to play any H.264 streams since it cant decode H.264 thats progressive
