Thought I'd start a thread for reviewing any movie you might have watched recently at home ..
Not neccessarily at the movies.
I dont get to the movies as often as I'd like ...but do like to check one out at home ..usually on a Friday as part of my routine.

Last night was no exception ..and a proper trip down memory lane even for an old duffer like me.
The remake of Rudyard Kiplings Jungle book ..which ..like the 1967 Cartoon was also a Disney production.
the 2016 Remake was superb ..and even had me singing along with Bal00 and King Louie ...
Yes I know I'm a saddo ..
Superbly crafted CGI ...and a very believeable 'talking animal' movie ..
Definately one to enjoy with your kids ..if you have any..
You can watch it and pretend you are doing it for them ...whilst secretly enjoying the movie.
Superb voice casting from the likes of Bill Murray and Ben Kingsley.
A simple enough plot line from an old classic ...given the modern Disney treatment ..
Very Very Enjoyable.

On a totally divergent tangent to the above ...
just finished watching a film that totally had my attention ..
The Man Who Knew Infinity ...
If you liked A Beautiful Mind this is along similar lines ..
I don't pretend to understand the theory nor the beauty that some see in pure math.
..but I do see and am moved by revelation and pure genius.
Take a punt and give this an airing if you get the chance.
Much in common with The Theory of Eveything ..
Ramanujans analytical brilliance and theorums reverberate in just about every branch of mathematics ..including describing how black holes can exist.

Superb performances by Irons and Patel.

Fnar, fnar !

I rarely have time, or funds to get to see new releases, but having spent a bit of time recently in two exchange shops, it does look as though there are many more bluray discs being parted out , and they are awash with DVDs starting at 50p, cheaper than the local charity shop nearby unless they are in the bin under the main shelving.

The last full movie I watched was Paddington (2015 release from memory) that I got for £1 on Bluray a couple of months ago, very entertaining, though the rest of the family saw it at the cinema when it was out in the New Year, which cost almost £30, plus popcorn.

What I did get today was the full series (1-4) of Rising Damp for £1.50, about a weeks solid viewing. I just hope nobody contemplates rebooting it.

This is my favourite film ever. Sharp comedy, which won Marisa Tomei an Oscar.

I like to watch "The Terminal" now and then, especially when I need a decent comedy film.
Tom Hank is brilliant in this film.

We tend to have very divergent tastes in movies here. SWMBO likes documentaries and things like 'Best Marigold Hotel'. I tend to go for superhero movies, science fiction and 'better' Chinese martial arts movies. We've been to the movies twice this year, when the local cinema showed 'VO' films (in English with French subtitles). We've seen "The Revenant", which was superbly acted but unrelenting, violent and bleak and "Spotlight", the academy award winning movie about the Catholic priest child abuse cases in Boston. Can't praise this enough.

From my own collection LOL, I have a particular liking for the extended version of 'Kingdom of Heaven', 'Once', 'Son of Rambow' and 'Amelie' a French movie.

I did like A Chinese Ghost Story, though I have only got it on VHS.

Yes I have, can't say I liked it that much actually. Haven't heard of "A Chinese Ghost Story". I'd recommend checking out, "The Promise", "Red Cliff", "Fearless" and "Shaolin".

It was an80's film from )Hong Kong that spawned two sequels, one of the early 'high budget flying thief' productions with stop motion as well.

I have John Carter At the top of a pile of DVDs that I glance at if I get a spare 40 mins or so.

This is for tonight, 50p in the local exchange shop and I can take it back tomorrow and get 35p back.

I also got RoboGeisha for another 20p, but has a scratch that I will polish out for tomorrow evenings entertainment.

These days I am more into watching TV series than films.

Finished The Affair Seasons 1 and 2 and I can see now why Ruth Wilson won the Golden Globe Awards 2014 for best actress.
Yesterday I couldn't let go of Deutschland 83 and it was the first time that I ever watched six episodes non stop. Can't wait to watch Deutschland 86 if they ever make it.
