I currently have a DM800HD and am pretty fed up at this stage. It's a newish original (after replacing a clone that I though was the cause of the problem) and has a 500GB internal hard drive.

The problem is performance - I cannot watch and record HD at the same time. This normally results in jittery playback when watching the recorded program. Also, the 'working' symbol appears in the top left of the screen locking out the controls until the DM is able to cope.

I see that the DM8000 has a 400Mhz processor as opposed to the DM800's 300Mhz processor. So, is this the answer to my problems? It would be nice to have the dual tuner back as well so another question is can the 8000 handle recording two HD programs while watching another from disc? :confused

I'm looking at either the VU+ Duo or the DM8000 as a solution so any suggestions are greatly appreciated! :)

Hi,
I've just recorded BBC HD whilst watching a BBC HD recording I'd made earlier with no problems on my DM800 clone with DM replacement tuner. I'm using a patched PLi image so it might be worth trying reflashing your box.

I also have a DM8000 which I would recommend but they are expensive. I have looked at the reviews for the Vu+Duo and if you don't want an intergrated DVD player then they seem like good alternative at half the price.

DM8000 costs a packet. Have you checked out the Vu+ Duo, it's a brilliant receiver?

Thanks for the info. I should have mentioned that recording and recieving FTA HD channels are a lot less troublesome then others. I've tried most images at this stage and at the moment I'm using Dream Eliete Phoenix - seems to be the best so far.

Intersting about the VU+ Duo - I certainly ouldn't need the extra functionality of the 8000 such as DVD and optional extra tuners so it's probably the option for me. Just have to figure out if works with c\s ;)

Bugger - my 800 is only 3 months old. I didn't know they were upgrading the processor :-doh!

I like the idea that you can buy an original VU+ Duo for about the same price of an 8000 clone. I've also read that they will take all 8000 images so I take it that CCcam can be setup? :confused

Vu+ has it's own images (VIX for example) although it will run DM 8000 images. There are probably more Vu+ Duos in service than DM8000s, although I don't know that for a fact, but for sure image support for the Vu+ Duo is as good as, if not better than for DM8000. CCcam works fine. Also the tuner on the Vu+ is excellent and many people who own DM800s and Vu+s have mentioned how much more sensitive they seem to be.

Just bought and set up my dreambox. I thought it should be an upgrade relative my ClarkeTech combo HD receiver .
Up til now I am highly disappointed, especially with the satellite scanning - the dreambox only handles 4 satellites per
input - a serious disappointment

Which Dreambox is it. Could you update your profile?

Dreambox can handle 32 LNBs per input. Maybe you are mixing up committed and uncommitted. For your switch to work as 8:1 you need to set up DiSEqC 1.1 and then you will find you have "inputs 1-16".

Thanks - found the advance settings and got a bit confused at first because I couldn´t change LNB with the right arrow - tried the left and then it worked (must be some sort of bug).

The Dreambox 8000 is over rated and too pricey to even consider buying. The Vu+ Solo and Duo have excellent support and have a wide range of images available to them.

I am currently running mine with the newest Blackhole image, although there are images from Vix, Vti, S.I.F HDFreaks, OpenPli to name a few. I have been mostly using Dreamboxes for the last 5 years or so but to be honesty i don't think i'll be be buying another one now that i have seen what else there is available on the market :D

I have a DM8000 with 4 tuners 1T Hard drive DVDrw and Fan. so I spent a lot of money. Would I say its worth it.... probably not. I do love it and at times hate it when it decides to muck me about cuz a plugin it dont like, and i have to re flash it. I suppose you'll get that though with any open source box though. I'd like to try other boxes as i just jumped straight into the deep end, so i really have no idea about other boxes.

I found my Vu+ Duo to have very sensitive tuners. I can get channels that i couldn't get on my old DM7020Si.

Channels on 16e also pixilate a lot less during rain than it did on my 7020Si. I can also access a lot more channels off 23.5e (German Beam) that i couldn't before.

As i've said before i think that Dream Multimedia boxes are over priced for what they are. DMMs after service care also leaves a lot to be desired.

I wouldn't hesitate on recommending the VU+ Duo. You can't get a receiver that can do as much as the Vu+ Duo can for the money. Dream do not have anything that can even come close to it for the money.

current DM500HD and DM800HD se got newer tuners a lot better than previous
I have seen many people In fringe area satisfied with DM500HD tuner sensitivity
thats why I like to get opinions from DM500HD and better DM800HD se and Vu boxes users
