Hi all

I want to receive tv channels in Cypus from the Hotbird and Eutelsat w3 at 7East Satelites using up to a 1.2 Dish.Am i right in thinking that i can receive Hotbird 1 to 3 channels as they have a wide or superwide footprint and would only require a 1.2 dish wheras Hotbird 6 only covers Europe and would need a bigger dish. Also would i be able to receive Eutelsat w3 at 7east with an twin lnb setup.
Lastly can you suggest a decent receiver for this purpose . I think the
Samsung DSR 9500 VIA CI or the Dream Box as they have built in encryption.

Thanks Pete

Friend. Of course you can receive more than 200 channels from Hot Bird. What r u going to watch with Eut W3. 1.2m dish antenna is ideal for Hot Bird.
A decent receiver u r asking for is KAON 570Z or Opentel .

All Hotbirds 1/2/3/4/6 Widebeams can be received very well with a 1.2m, even with smaller diameters but a 1.2m is better since bad weather in winter can appear.
The Hotbird 2/3/4 Superbeams instead need 5m in Pafos (Western coast) as a friend of mine told me. There are hotels with Sky Italy reception and this huge dish is really needed to get everything on 24h basis. So to make it short, with a 1.2m you would lose the encrypted Sky Italy and french TPS frequencies.
W3A on 7E is an easy satellite in Cyprus as well. 1m should be ok.
In case you need more information about reception in Greece and Cyprus there is a greek forum on www.sdtv.gr.

Hi

I didnt think i was going to get a reply for this post
Thanks for the useful information
Also would a 1.2m dish be ok for Hispasat 30w as the footprint seems close to Cyprus

Thanks again

Welcome :)

Hm Hispasat is a little strange. To get everything on 24h basis unfortunately a 2.40m dish is needed for the more difficult 1D but the easier 1C should start with 1.2m. You will surely get some frequencies but don't expect too much. Hispasat starts to lose signal in SE Greece. If you were more to the west or north a 1.2m would be no problem.

P.S.: Things can be better now than in summer because of colder atmosphere. Try in sunny, dry and cold weather to see if you can get more than usual.
