Help, somebody help! this is driving me nuts.
Am using a monoblock for, initially hotbird and Astra1c and I think I put the LNB back the wrong way. Not a problem really as instead of Astra1c I was getting 7 degrees and strangely Astra3a (through SS2 & lidl box). Then tonight, adjusting the dish I got hotbird at about 88% (great as the dish is 70 metres away) and ALSO sirius & eutelsat w3a, all with a good signal. Suddenly everything changes again and, though there is no wind at all, hotbird disappears completely and sirius, though w3a is still there. Then hotbird reappears briefly with Astra1c and a bit of sirius. To use the technical term, this is doing my fruit in. I either want hotbird and Astra1c OR hotbird and whatever I can expect from the other way with an 80cm dish and monoblock. REMEMBER THERE IS NOT A BREATH OF WIND. Have I done something crazy with disecq settings, has my monoblock gone mad or is this all a dream and I will wake up in the shower having never heard of satellites...................... O-st 'O'-red :-doh! :-rofl2

I feel you pain, I have tried to install my new monoblock tonight but I could not get it to work. I have Skystar 2 with Progdvb.

I am viewing astra 19 deg at the moment but would like to receive hotbird as well, I was told by the supplier of the monoblock I would just have to remove the single LNB and replace it with the monoblock, yeah right I could not even get astra when I put the monoblock on. Please could someone tell me if my dish has to be facing at hotbird in order for the monoblock to work.

Please please help

Yes, in most cases Hotbird has to be the main focus and the most easterly LNB needs to be in the clamp, then the other side will be pointing at Astra, although a little skewing may be necessary.

Please excuse me if i'm wrong but if you are trying to receive 19 deg east and 13 deg east shouldn't you be pointing your dish somwhere in between with a monoblock?

Depends on which type of monobloc, but most of them clamp on the hotbird side, so you align the main focus of the dish to Hotbird. Even if it clamps in the middle, you still set up on one side or the other, as you cannot align to the space between. :)

Please don't get me wrong, I am genuinely pleased if other folks questions can be answered by the forum, but I feel my post may be wandering slightly........

That reply really was answering your post as well, clamp the most easterly LNB and then point at Hotbird using DiseqC A, to check if it is the right side pointing at Hotbird, cover the Easterly LNB with a cloth, if the signal disappears, then you are lined up.

Thanks Rolf, that is how I had it setup initially & could get hotbird and astra. The question is what can i expect to get if I have the 'free' lnb on the other side and is this normal to be wildly picking up and losing so many satellites?

13-6 =7E which was what you were getting -2 degs wind movement or a half to 1 deg of movement if you were not spot on to begin with would give you sporadic 5E.

Can i expect to receive the likes of sirius, eutelsat etc if I have the monoblock the other way round with the 'clamped' one fixed at hotbird?

seems bizarre though, that I could get hotbird, w3a and sirius all at the same time, both on the sl65 and progDVB?

Not at all, the LNB is specifically designed to be offset on the Eastern satellite, so that feedhorn is closer to the dish and inward pointing, so if you put that side in the clamp, the offset on the Western satellite will be further away from the dish than it should be and pick up stray signal.

PS. there are some monoblocs which are designed with a central clamp and these can be used for any combination of sats at 6 degrees separation. :)

So basically, if I want a reliable hotbird signal it is best to change it back over? it is unlikely to be stable enough to reliably catch anything else i guess?

Yes and yes. :)

If you want more from a fixed dish, then go for a Raven Gemini 90cm with East and West offset bracket, you can then get 28.2, 19.2, 13, 5 and 1. :)

ah would love to, think it can still remember the titanic sailing though and there are no lnb arm attachments for it, well there are, three rusty threaded poles which meet nothing in the middle so gawd knows how I could get it to work, plus it's so heavy would need a frame the size of Bournemouth for it! would I see a big difference though if I could get it to work? Is, (when you get over a certain size), a dish a dish if you know what I mean? think it was used for analogue years ago.

Oh yes :D
If you could get it set up well you would be amazed.
But the Raven 90 would be a lot more practical.

Right, put the monoblock back where it should be and hotbird is fine and stable 70-88% on the sl65 and 56%+ on progdvb (very windy tonight). Can't get astra1 BUT can get sirius2/3, Astra3a and eutelsatw3a all fine and viewable with most channels 60%+ quite happy with that but seems a bit bizarre?
