Yet another Hotpoint / Indesit screw up. half a million washing machines sold since 2014 are to be recalled

If you have a recent Hotpoint or Indesit washing machine please use the machine checker Whirlpool-Home to check your appliance.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Thank goodness I own a proper-Hotpoint washer (WM53a), before the Indeshit buyout when they stopped making Hotpoint designs and just rebadged their own creations as Hotpoint...

Though I do have an Indesit washer-dryer in the shed, and Whirlpool say it's okay, not that it matters given it's in the shed doing nothing but smelling bad... :-rofl2

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
"Indesit" = "In de S*it"!!

Better check if a neighbour who bought an "as above" w/m a year or so ago has spotted this and checked if it's on the "endangered" list as he's not the "one of the brightest" people I know (same guy who now has a RING wifi cam on the front wall that could well be broadcasting unencrypted).

I did lend him some "WHICH" reviews pointing to better and more reliable - and almost certainly "safer" - m/cs, but I doubt he could afford one of those as he had stopped working a few years ago as a result of the longterm effects of Type 1 diabetes and multiple health problems resulting from that, including having to have a kidney transplant earlier this year.

PS: Ref the thread title - I strongly suspect that the "UK only" bit is likely incorrect, as the only probable difference between the m/cs for the UK and those for other countries with 220/240V 50 Hz mains supplies was/is the type of plug on the end of the mains cable and the language of the wording on the control panels and in the user manuals!

Thus, anyone, anywhere, with a 220V/240V Hz mains supply m/c from the years when the "suspect" ones were made should ALSO be aware! :(

If it's made by Indeshit, it's suspected to be dangerous until proven otherwise, it's what happens when you let the italians play at being electrical engineers... :-wow

OTOH, maybe those "Hot" guys who "point"ed people towards buying Hotpoint" m/cs ain't so "likeable" either :(

PS: OTOH2, our 12+ yr Zanussi m/c is still doing very well, thank you :D

Well, pre-Indeshit buyout Hotpoints were much more reliable (ironic being British-designed and made!!), which is why I intentionally sought out the 20-something year old WM53a I have now when it's predecessor (a Creda with the exact same internals, give or take a few hardware mounting points) died, since they bought them out, Indeshit just rebranded their own dubiously designed products, and then proceeded to set fire to people's homes, the worst of which sadly having allegedly been Grenfell...

Funny thing is, Hotpoint started off in the US as a name for General Electric clothes irons, the pointy end having a hot spot, making it a "hot-point" iron, so started off life burning things, in the wrong hands of course...

Interesting, got a Zanussi combi wash\dry, the most amazing piece of machinery I ever owned\bought, 100% ok after regular use since 1994.
Dogs, family members, friends, cars, motorcycles etc etc dead and gone, the Zanussi still there.
But for such old stuff, realistic safety applied, only washing when someone present, mains disconnected when not in use.

Ref Zanussi w/m (at least the older ones!): I'm a WHICH mag subscriber and bought our w/m on the basis of recommendation about that one, and that seems to have been justified in the longterm.

OTOH, "things change" "over time", and thus I always check the "quality" of possible purchases of "almost anything" before buying as I may buy from various sources, and so generally also check the relevant Amazon reviews - especially the 1 or 2 star ones!

As long as it's well maintained, there shouldn't be any safety issues really, after all, it's lasted this long, unlike many Indeshit models...
