Invest £10 or equivalent in Euros in a signal strength meter, really makes life easy.

Never bothered with them, always use a meter, you can of course make a quick judgement on how much lower in the sky a satellite is compared with your current one.

I use a professional angle meter made by a Swedish company, you really need one, i can set up a polarmount on a 1 meter dish in less than 10 minutes to perfection thanks to that meter.

Also i have a basic dBuV level meter, you don't need all fancy BER and C/N stuff for private use.

There should only be a maximum of 18v at the LNB, certainly not enough to burn your fingers.

There is something seriously wrong with your setup if it is capable of giving burns at the LNB end of the cable.

This was last year with a 7 year old dish and lnb.I hope you can understand why i am some what releuctent to use a meter in the near future.Even though the meter probaly was at fault-well you get what you pay for

I use meters every day of the week, but they are self powered, I do however disconnect cables from LNBs and whatever you experienced was not the fault of the meter, as the power comes from the receiver. Even though the meter probably has smoothing capacitors inside, they would be unlikely to be large enough to produce burning.

The meters I use now are, but have used the little swinging needle meters and tone meters in the past and they cost less than £2o.
