Try with the 9 pin cable only (null modem, not straight serial) and 'use network' unticked.

The null modem has the same plugs at the end, normally female. Serial lead have male and female ends.

if you are connected through a lan cable, use flashwizard pro..no messing about unplugging cables, also very fast...best of luck:)

True. But a null-modem is a useful tool to have when flashing goes wrong and the box won't boot any more, as it sometimes happens.

:(

like today....
i have trayed to flash the new 1.09 image into my dreambox using LAN and DreamUp LAN v1.20 program.everything started ok, i erased old image, started to flash the new one...i waited 15 minutes,20, 30, 45...after 45 min i disconnected the flashing, because i thougth it takes to much time and program not responding. Is it possible? a flashing takes more than 45 min.???maybe it went something wrong?
any ideas?my box is dead.
have I to flash my box with serial cable( null )?
what software is the best for flashing?
and can i use just a gender changer( male / male) to conect my box with pc?Should be the same.Because i ve got just a male/female serial cable. And it`s not working.I have tryed to put a gender changer (male/male) on it, i mean : had serial male/female cable and made male / male cable, but it didnt work as well. what could be wrong.
and the last question. What is the best image at the moment.what can you recomend to me?i wanted to flash 1.09 original image. by the way, i ve got magic module , and fun 6 and fun 163 smart card and i gonna use it.so, what is the best image at the moment.

thank you very much

Serial cable has each pin connected to the corresponding pin at the other end. Null modem has some connections crossed, see picture in Klona how-to guide. It is not just a question of gender changer. Regards.

Hi gsmserv !
To get started use dreamup.
Here is how your null modem cable should be wired.

Folks,

I haven't touched my DB for a while, but it needs a revamp - for starters the main image ran out of /var and messed up. Good to be back on the job at the hand
icon6.gif

I have the following images:
SF Team (107) Multi boot with the following on a hdd:
Servis IP (I think this is on flash memory too, is it possible to have
two images on flash? No wonder I have no space!!!)
Triple X
sf 108 - This is really the only one I use (release 1.0.8, 31.08.2004)
p pan 108
hyd 7000b
hyd achile

My main interest, if I'm honest, has been to get TV Globo (from Brazil) but haven't gone far enough to understand keys, camd etc... UNTIL NOW
icon10.gif
. (I've settled for watching FTA REDERECORD to now which gives some football etc...)

I'm all set up with flashwizard and dreamup to go - I'll be trying to get dream up working then do a back up and then use flashwizard to start afresh...

I'm thinking that I will put one of the two below as the main image (flash as I understand it??)

1109200502070003SF Team IMG v109b for DB7000 07/02/20051108200501260002SF Team img v108.2 for DB7000 26/01/2005
...I say one of the above as I don't know how stable v109b is.
Does anyone have any views on this, please???

I then don't know which additional images to put on, again your advice most welcome. If there is an image which allows easier viewing of TV Globo (Nagra 2, Hispasat C) and other Portuguese channels, please let me know.

THEN, WHAT? I guess a play with Sky wouldn't go amiss... I've scanned the posts and found that Poseidon, Gemini, Hydra seem to be popular.

What about camd - what version should I look for and where?

Automatic / Internet key updates??? Which images work best? I'm assuming that SF Images stick to basic functionality, am I right?
icon12.gif

Any issues / workarounds found as I have them, will be reported here.

Over to the forum!!

In summary:
1) Is it possible to have more than 1 image on flash? Why do it?
2) SF 108.2 or 109b?
3) What other images (TV Globo, Portuguese channels, Sky main interests,
plus any nice additions
icon12.gif
)
4) Camd d version and where from?
5) Internet / Automatic key updates and which image is best/good

gmserv vbmenu_register("postmenu_233061", true); , how did you get on with flash update, all sorted? I'm next

Thanks for any help,

Fad,

1. As far as i know 7000 flash memory is not that big to hold 2 images.
2. & 3. Why don't you use one of the latest releases of the popular teams like Gemini and SDT. I use SDT images for quite a while now and they are very stable.
4. I always use the latest release of camd3 (now v3.780) Available for download from the SDT cp.
5. For key updates it is better to be done manually as teams realized that by not providing any keys is easier for them to survive.

...costasd3 and john_graydon, thanks for the tips and information.

Is it necessary to install one of the sf images into flash (SF 108.2 or 109b) to allow the multi boot or would gemini/sdt/Da Vinchi also enable multi boot?

"your patience and help greatly appreciated"

...forgot to add: I fire up flash wizard pro and click on "install ore remove a firmware in a multiboot". It connects OK and then asks "The boot menu of flashwizard PRO is not installed on flash image. Do you want to install it now?" I click yes and it says multiboot installed. It then seaches on HDD and doesn't find any images (??) ("No Images found"). why is this?

It then says "on flash" where it finds FlashImage 2.4.20 and then "on multiboot": and an empty list, i.e. none. Which means I can't back it up. Bit cautious to say the least.

Any ideas?

I've been able to do the smart copy back up of the bouquets, timer, satellites.

Thanks again.

Put rel 109 image in flash, And then after resetting your ip adresses again put the multiboot images on hd or usb. FWizzard will ask you where you want to put them. remember to use multiboot images and not the ordinary ones.

No images on hdd because you have not put any on there.
Down load the latest boxman cvs image into the flash.
Next download a couple of simple images to use such as nedkelly which has cam and key downloads or std if keys are not a problem.
Load these onto you hdd and reboot your system.
Do not waste your time setting up the flash image, Just install it and forget about it.
If you dont want to put images on your hdd get a usb stick approx £20 and put a few images on that.
When playing around with images on the usb you can not cause any problems to the rest of the system. (It is just about full proof).
Here is a link to download as many images as you want.
http://www.dreamboxworld.com/dbw/main.htm
Just make sure the boxman image and the other images are all R109.1
Let us know how you get on.
Do not worry about messin it up. It can always be fixed.
Good luck m8!

thanks folks. I think I'm ready to give it a go (putting fear aside ;-).

Actually, I like the idea of putting the images on USB (already have one). Then leaving the hdd just for PVR. Is it safe to just delete all the old images from the hdd (there are 5 in folders 0->5)? (telnet and rm -rf or is that a bit brutal?)

Cheers again. fad
