Hi,
I'm planning a 4 quattro lnb -> multiswitch setup and
unfortunattely due to my electrician's good installation of conduit,
5m of the 16 coax cables will be outside on the wall.

I would like to both long term protect the cable and make a tidy
installation - is there any piping/conduit which can be used
(I need something round 50mm diameter / will be in direct hot sun
as I'm on the Adriatic coast) ? Something like grey plastic
drain pipe would be nice but I was told it will degrade quickly.

You could use 50mm ABS plastic pipe, that will last forever. Use solvent weld on the joints to stop water getting in there.

Excellent advice from rick1980.

I will add:

White coloured cables can be used from the LNB to the multiswitch.

They will last longer than brown or black in intense sun.

If you have black or brown cables exposed on the wall, paint them with white house wall paint.

Also use white LNBs, or paint black LNBs white, and shade the LNBs and multiswitch with thick white plastic in the summer.

A white dish will crack the LNB cap in 2-3 years and let water in. If the dish is white, perhaps spray paint (matt) it another colour e.g. light grey, light brown.

Maybe paint the plastic pipe the same colour as the wall!

All of this will make the LNBs, cables and multiswitch last for longer. :)

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

I would go for the 'spray with silver paint' approach. Since a lot of roof materials are now designed with reflective property in mind, silver is the best way to go (unless you can afford gold).

I am sure some people will want gold for extra bling. :D

Hi,
your input is very much appreciated !!!- I can see that I will now
be able to solve this - just a few more clarifications please:

(a)The ABS plastic pipe - in which branch of industry is it best to look for this type of pipe ?

(b)There is a mention of shading the multiswitch, so I presume
you thought it would be very near the LNB or even outside -
just wondering, does the distance from LNB to multiswitch
make much difference for my setup/coax lenghts - I can place the multiswitch at (X) , or (Y) (would prefer (Y)

layout: LNBs ->5m coax outside-> inside wall (point X)
-> 8m coax -> central place for connection of coax/computer network (point Y)
-> coax to rooms cca 8m - 15m each leg

(c)"A white dish will crack the LNB cap in 2-3 years"
- I guess this is due to reflection of white "color"
- does it make that much difference (White/grey)
/doesn't painting the LNB affect reception ?

(d)When it comes to coax, is it worthwhile paying for the better cable ? Over here I can find:
no name coax DIGITAL 75ohm (cca 0,3Euro/m)
Hirschmann KOKA F6 TSV (cca 0,4Euro/m)
Z prof cca 0,7Euro/m, Belden 7-proX 1Euro/m
Fracarro VAT 17 cca 0,6Euro/m,
SPAUN SPOAX 95E cca 2 Euro/m
Belden 1694A cca 1,5Euro/m

X or Y is fine.

You can paint the LNB body, but do not paint the cap where the signal comes in.

A light grey dish will not reflect as much light as a white dish.

RG6 cable is needed , so the Hirschmann is good:

- Inner conductor material copper diameter of 1.02 mm

- Outer diameter 6.8 mm

- Shielding foil and braid

Yes you can get the ABS pipe from any plumbers merchants. They will also supply clips, elbows, tees etc and solvent cement for setting the joints,
