Hi People !

After spending my hard earned pound with Murdo** O-grab for many years,i have had enough and am splashing out on a motorised set-up.

Hence your assistance is required.

A friend has recommended the Humax 5400 but it appears hard to come by.If you had a budget of £500 for the receiver, what would you go for.presumably there are better receivers out there.

Thanks for taking the trouble to read my post and i look forward to the replies.

The 5400 is a great tool, but is now almost yesterday's news. There are loads of great receivers on the market and probably one that will rise above the others for your particular needs.

If you are going to go feed hunting (football wise), how big a dish re you intending to install? If it is 1.2 metres or bigger, or perhaps exposed to the elements, you may require a 36volt actuator, so you could be looking for a receiver with a built in positioner.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

I would look at the total amount you have and split it between getting the best out of the outdoo equipment and the receiver

Most receivers now run DiSEqC 1.2 for moving the dish but rather than use this all the way to the motor, spend a little more and use a standard 36V actuator system and good polarmount. Keep to a Universal LNB but fit the largest dish you will get away with.

Then with the money left look at a DiSEqC receiver with a converter (VBox or Aston) to the motor, OR a receiver with a standard 4 wire positioning.

Internal CAMS (UCAS) are available but check carefully with the forums that the make does not suffer from manufacturing defects, patching failures, general trouble. A Magic CAM solves most of the troubles with embedded solutions

And then theres the new generation of receivers with storage and playback devices built in (£500 is now at the lower end of the scale of these machines)

I'm looking to motorise my Echostar 2110 2Ci to save money. I take it that the above suggestions will work with this?

If the 2110 is DiSEqC 1.2 compatible (I think it is) the if enabled it will work with the above
