Digital STB manufacturers Humax, is eyeing the UK terrestrial TV market. The company has announced a contract with UK-based digital TV software specialist Cabot Communications, who will provide the MHEG-5 engine and Over-Air-Download module for a portfolio of DTT products to be rolled out in the next 12 months.

This is the first terrestrial TV venture in the UK for Humax, which has a prominent position in the German satellite market. Dale Heathcote, Commercial Director, at Humax believes the company can achieve similar success in the UK.

Cabot has also launched a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) software development kit to help set-top box and iDTV manufacturers build competitively priced PVR products for the free-to-air terrestrial market. The development kit is an addition to Cabot’s Eclipse DVB middleware package that shortens manufacturers’ development time, allowing them to build digital TV stacks for set-top boxes or integrated digital TVs within weeks.

Hello

Lets hope their after release service is better than that provided for their Satellite STBs.

From my experience, once they release a new product, all further upgrade/development on previous models is abandoned.

I have a humax STB which stands me in good stead, but despite having been built with 'upgradeability' the company have no interest whatsoever in the product now that it has been superceeded by another model.

Once bitten twice shy - a good product as it stands - but never again.
