But nothing like this one

I used straws and a reel of foil, and an olde computer monitor

This man seems to have gone a bit further with his research

I started wearing rubber gloves around that time (and still put them on for special occasions).

The LOPT voltages in a computer monitor can be used for these experiments, but I was really hoping to blag the one out of the Panasonic back projector TV, these were rated at 42-45kV.

Only just noticed this thread and the above in particular - I once had to do some radiation level tests for 30kV projection tubes in TVs destined for the USA (they never actually got there - the company went bust several times!) and the FDA (or whatever it was then)-required tests meant that I had to take the anode voltages up to around 50kV, courtesy of a PSU lent to us by Hunting Hivolt. At that voltage, everything was very "hairy" to say the least - even with the tubes in a specially built perspex enclosure, they were flashing over the dag almost everywhere, and I blew up at least one AVO 8 used for measuring the anode current.

Avoided get any shocks myself, but "be very careful what you wish for"!!!

Oh, I got shocks.

Which makes the whole idea of these things taking off/ landing and some maintenance by the crew somewhat absurd until the basics are sorted.

No sharp edges would be a first.
