The dish looks familiar.
Have you any backlash in your motor. I changed my Clark Teck to an Jaeger SG2500 (same same as Moteck and Tecknomate) but i was not pleased with this motor as it has backlash as new,and the munt to the motor was really crappy in thin steel. If i tightend the nuts then the mount gets bend, theres heavy lod on the mount when the dish is at 75e. So i fixed the backlash in my Clark Teck and put it up again, the mount is far better on the Clark Teck.

Just to clear up a couple of things as this thread has now more or less reached a conclusion :

Hakon, I haven't detected more backlash, but there may have been a tiny bit before the Laminas went on there. I may yet end up changing the motor.

Sandybob, I'm pleased to report that the new dish does not touch the wall. I can catch 53°E with room to spare and probably 57°E too. Not sure about Westerly sats as I can't get to 30°W because of trees but I don't think there's much beyond 43°W anyway.

Can you recommend anyone who sells those HH390 motors, and ships to Europe.

Shame about the west but it is still a nice range. Most people are restricted in their view of the arc in some way or another.

Thanks Hexah. My current arc is 57°E to 22°W. Fortunately, in the Winter the Western sat's can be more accessible when the leaves fall. My stepdaughters boyfriend has promised to bring his chainsaw when they next come over!!

I am glad the dish clears the wall, fitting bigger T&Ks would have been a lot of hassle. My arc is only 33°E to 30°W anyway, so you have done well. Just wish it could stretch to 39°E, been thinking about a smaller seperate dish for it but dont think its worth the cost. I have to agree with everyone about the mounting plate of the moteck, I have a genuine one and the backplate and clamps are bent as well, although the u bolts on mine are stainless steel, the motor works perfectly well however.

The backplate and top clamp of my motor are bent too! I think overenthusiastic tightening when I first installed the motor may have been the culprit. However, it has taught me to check with a digital level that the backplate is at 90° relative to the pole. I think this is one of the reasons I was getting extra performance out of the Gibi.

If I had had to fit longer T & K's, I would have moved the whole set up to the other side of the sun porch. It would have got me 30°W back then.

57e-22w is still good. i can get 42e to 58west but i only tend to view 28,19,13,5,1w so its pretty pointless me having this range.

nothing much on the sats after 22west anyway until you get to 30west.

maybe use your 1metre gibby for 30west maybe not sure what is on there.

I do not agree, every sat that can give me a channel is VERY important:-jumpsmile
Intelsat 702 at 66.0E has only one channel "Kazakstan TV" a fantastic channel sends only to 21:00 my local time, after that they shut off the transponder.:confused
The important thing is that i have the channel, i don't look att the channel but i have it:cool:

Yes, actually 'catching' a satellite is what's important to me, and logging those 'impossible' transponders too. I was once told by my late wife, that she thought a lot of men could be borderline Aspergers (e.g. obsessing over small details) well perhaps I am!!

Are you picking up 66°E with USALS or are you using diseq commands? It's an impossible sat for me to get, as the LNB would have punched a hole in the porch roof by the time the dish turned to that position!!

66°E is working great with USALS, but as i had found out the transponder is closed from 21:00 GMT+1

Having told Hakon that I couldn't detect any backlash, it seems I was mistaken. I have a feeling it was there with the Gibi but the narrower beamwidth of the Laminas has highlighted it. On my further Eastern sats it's out by a degree or slightly more. Is there any way to adjust the backlash on a Technomate motor? If not I'll just replace it, though I'm thinking of either a Technomate with metal gearing or that Dark motor that is 'rated' for 1.4M dishes. Oh and having reflected on the comment Huevos made, I may well move it above the T. It will barely be above the guttering and the wall won't be an issue either.

Thanks! I've ordered one COD. I'm hoping the support bracket is better than my current motor has, which is pretty flimsy. Is the backlash easy to adjust on them should I need to at a later date?

I think the Darkmotor is almost the same as the Clarke-Tech HH390 but the CT has nice bearings supporting the motor stub. For more info ask Hakon because he just had his in pieces.

But if you want to avoid the expense of a new motor (for the time being) just save your satellite positions as DiSEqC 1.2 and the weight of the dish will keep it loaded in one direction.

Thanks for the tip Huevos but for the time being I've altered the satellite positions to compensate. I'll see how it goes with the motor for now, but perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a backup motor 'in stock'.

I have been looking at a spare motor, but I dont think the darkmotor/c-tech 390 will fit easily on my Gibertini 1.2. I think I will go for the moteck SG2100A again, as I know this fits my setup, its just the quality of the mounting plate that is poor.

The Clarke Tech HH 390 is the same as the Dark Motor, metal gear. Moteck makes motor to other brands like Jaeger ,Technomate.
I bought the Jaeger SG 2500 (with metalgear), but im not pleased with this motor. I had backlash in this brand new Jeager and the mount is crappy.
I will make a reinforcement for the mount and have this motor for spare.
I also had backlash at my Clarke Tech but after some examination i fund out how to adjust away the backlash. My experience is that the Clarke Tech is a better motor for my Laminas 120cm dish.

I will take apart my Jaeger motor and put up som pictures at the thread _http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/picture-members-setups-general-satellite-installations/135418-diseqc-motor-internal-comparison-pictures.html

Thanks for that Hakon. I've just ordered a Clarke Tech motor which should be here early next week. Right now I'm trying to work out the logistics of mounting the Laminas on the new motor single handed. Is the motor stub on the Clarke Tech easy to take off and then replace? I'm thinking of mounting the dish on the motor stub and then offering it up to the motor body as a last step.
