Yes, that's how I did it the first time and I have another 'Heath Robinson' idea of how to support the dish face while I bolt it to the mount if I revert to Plan A LOL. The hardest part is reaching the bolts in the centre of the dish to engage at least one of them in the mount so I can do it up finger tight then see to the other three. Not being blessed with extra long arms makes this an 'interesting' task.

Really depends on the weight of the dish and if you can get above the motor to pull it up, I doubt you will be able to hold it up from below the motor with one hand while trying to insert the bolt with the other. On mine I fit the backplate to the stub first, refit the stub to motor, then fit the dish face to the backplate, if you can reach both sides if the dish face screw holes to do them up.

Pulling it up from above the motor isn't really an option unless I stood on the roof and knelt down to bolt on the dish face. Knowing the state of my roof I daren't contemplate that!! Holding it up from underneath is a better option and I have a plan to attach a support to the pole to take the weight of the dish face while I engage the bolts. Working off a ladder isn't the easiest either.

I think perhaps a two person job then, with a rope to take the weight of the dish and to save from dropping/falling/crashing. Perhaps remove the lnb support arms as well in case something does swing and damages them.
Ideally one person underneath holding the dish up and one person up higher fitting the stub and bolt to the motor.
Is it too heavy to fit up in one go, motor and all?

In a word, yes! If you were working at ground level it would be much much easier. Climbing a ladder whilst carrying the whole lot is tricky to say the least. Anyway, it may end up with the plank, old heating pipe and car jack again.

I thought that thing was lightweight, or is the trouble that you are going up the ladder with the dish in one hand and Zimmer frame in the other.

I find it is always easiest from underneath. Do the 2 bottom bolts first and that will hold the dish face fine. Then insert all the other bolts. There's no need to hold the head of the bolt while putting the nut on the back. Instead just twist the dish face a bit and the shearing force will grip the bolt while you get the nut started on the back.

If you glue the the bolts to the dish you don't need to reach them from both side.I replaced my bolts to stainless and the fitting in the holes are so tight that they stay in the dish even when i put the dish to the mount.

The motorstub are fitted in the same way on both type of the motors. Maby it works to fit the dish to the stub first, but i would go for the dishface off version.

Yes, it is lightweight and yes my Zimmer frame is cumbersome up the ladder. It's not so much the weight, more the lack of having a handhold on the dish while you climb. I take your point about working from underneath though it still doesn't stop the bolts dropping out when you try to push them and the dish face up against the mount. I might put a little bit of blu tack on them to hold them up against the dish.

The dish looks familiar.
Have you any backlash in your motor. I changed my Clark Teck to an Jaeger SG2500 (same same as Moteck and Tecknomate) but i was not pleased with this motor as it has backlash as new,and the munt to the motor was really crappy in thin steel. If i tightend the nuts then the mount gets bend, theres heavy lod on the mount when the dish is at 75e. So i fixed the backlash in my Clark Teck and put it up again, the mount is far better on the Clark Teck.
Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but what Hakon describes seems to have happened to me, from wind gusts a few weeks ago. Thought it was something easilily fixable like a loose bolt. But the mount is bent. :(

Are there stronger mounts sold separately, than this one of Jaeger ? Because the motor functions accurate and with no complains.

I've never seen any mounts for sale seperately, I'm sorry to say. You could always take the mount off, straighten it and find a way of strengthening it with a steel bar or bracket.

It looks like its been pulled out of line with tightening one side more than the other, just loosen one side and tighten the other and pull it back in line.

I found out last september why my dish would not track the arc properly. The motor mount was skewed slopping to the left.Probably caused by over tightening the bottom right bolt.I loosened the bottom T bracket and bashed it to the left until the motor bracket was vertical.I now have a slopping pole ,vertical motor bracket. The dish tracks the arc very well now.
Edit in fact looking at that photo The motor bracket is still a bit off.
