Identification of old 1m fibreglass dish?

Recently picked this one up in the equivalent of Loot here, came along with some other stuff.
It's about 1.0 x 1.1 m, motorised fibreglass dish.
There are no markings on the dish or on the mount.
The actuator is labelled Nokia, whereas the LNB is a Swedish Microwave.
So... is this a Nokia or an SMW?
Or something completely different?

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Whilst I have not seen that dish before, the LNB clamp looks suspiciously like the ones fitted to SMW toroid systems from the early 90's.

The actuator is an optical type, so be careful how you connect the five wires, a standard DiSEqC box will not drive it without modification

That's an SMW dish, but the only one they did with arm struts was the OA1200 (apart from the OA1400). Sure its measurement are as you took them?

I used to use that method of fixing the actuator on my OA1050 before I had their later polar mount fixing for using a larger actuator. The earlier lateral fixing only accepted a titchy actuator with very restricted dish movement.

Actually, that polar mount was only used on OA850/1050 dishes, so it looks as though you have the OA1050, but may be an earlier or later version, as my OA1050 doesn't have the struts.

Optical? Interesting... What sort of motor controller box would i need to drive it? And is there a way to test if it works before sourcing a motor control unit?

Ok, thanks for the ident.
I suppose that the 1050 means 105 cm or something?
...and of course - is it any good? The mount looks reasonably ok, only the nuts and bolts have any rust. Could probably fairly easily be refurbed. But with limited reach it may not be that useful...

Actual size1080 x 1200mm.

Dish and mount will last for years. I'm using the mount on my Gibertini 1.25 at present, with the modified actuator mount I mentioned. As supplied by SMW, it's just a cranked pipe that fits where the actuator originally used to be.

Pic shows my first attempt to marry the PM to the dish, but now I have the longer section of the pipe in the clamp, and on the left side of the mount now it's up on my mast for a better sweep of the arc.

Amazing - here I come across what appears to be an obscure dish and mount, and then you simply have this in-use, dish-converted, and mount-modified sitting in the back-yard doing real business.

http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/threads/gibertini-1-25m-on-smw-polar-mount.155301/

Was thinking of putting it up as-is to see if it works. Wonder if the actuator still works. (Have no experience with actuators.)
I also have a CM120 reflector (that I got from the same bloke) lying around that I could make an adapter plate for.
I think this could work with the mount (as it seems fairly heavy duty) even though the CM is probably heavier than the Gibby.

Might be pushing it a bit with the CM, although the gibby backplate is quite heavy. No signs of strain on the mount even with the dish flexing in the recent winds. I would sacrifice all my dishes for an SMW OA1200 though.

I reckon SMW stopped making dishes because they last too long :-rofl2

I've got a 1600 in the garden doing a good impression of a frog pond. Comes with backplate and a vast number of accessory feedhoorns

Yours for the cost of the postage

Thanks, but think I'll pass on that one CH.

Spec says it's equivalent to nine 1.0M dishes and a gain of 41.1dB, same gain as the OA-1050. OK I suppose if you don't want to go motorised, but weighing in at 32kg you're going to need hefty mast support.

Do you happen to have the F/D of the 1050?

I want to test the peformance of the SWM thing before converting it to CM, but I am wondreing what modern LNB to use.
I could stick a standard 0.6 (e.g. Invacom or Inverto with integrated feedhorn) on there, but if the F/D is different, I might better off with a C120 using the feedhorn that came with the dish.

Finish, dish: EMC shielding, Acrylic top coat
Surface accuracy: 0.5mm RMS
Material, back support: 1mm sheet steel
Finish, back support: Galvanised+powder coat
Frequency range: 10.7 - 12.75 GHz
Gain @ 12GHz: 41dB
f/D ratio: 0.5
Beam width: 1.6°
Edge illumination: -11 dB
Feed/LNB fitting: 23 and 40mm
Weight: 10.7 kG
Mount: Wall or mast

I've used an Invacom and Inverto BU with excellent results, but I had to fashion a DIY LNB holder, as the arm on mine was just a steel tube that took the SMW 23mm holder. I've also used the SMW feedhorn on a C120 Invacom Quad and C120 Inverto White Tech - the latter not as sensitive SQ wise as the others.

Thanks for this.

...seems I can try with an Invacom single and BUQ first, then it will be interesting to see if the C120 Invacom dual + SMW feedhorn makes any difference. Project for the weekend (or more likely easter)...

SH! Do you still have some parts from SMW-OA-1600 available? I do not have any LNB-holders, would like to have at least one. And also feedhorns would be interesting to have.

It's about 1.0 x 1.1 m, motorised fibreglass dish.
In fact, it turned out not be fibreglass after all, but simply plastic (ABS).
And as we all know, this stuff will persist for ages, so reflector will probably outlive (can you say "out-rust"?) the mount.

I do believe there are four unused ones with the reflector.
Are those parts available or you will need them? Reflector is too big to speak about sending it via post.
