Can anyone explain please why some receivers have two in-built Viaaccess cams.

What is the benifiet of having two in-built cams the same?

For cards from two separate providers. Say two mature content packages. :)

Don't know, but this is a far nicer twincam setup!

How'd you get the mature content on that then? :)

In the spare room.
Nice! Is it yours BG, or just in your private photo collection?

@Rolf... if you can find anything sexier than that, then I'll buy a 12 Month subscription. Twin 45DCOE's... Hubba Hubba...

@Prof, no sadly I never quite made it to the twincam, but I have got a heavily modified 1600 Crossflow... I can still dream though!

2 viaccess is used for those having two different viaccess subscription cards

instaed of removing a card and inserting the other you just keep
both in the machine

I see, so I presume with the twin cam (in the receiver not the engine compartment) you would get two slots in the front.

Sorry jetkis, I seem to have hijacked another thread with my engine-related drooling...

Yes, I believe you're right, unless of course one is just an emu... ;)

Now you've got me... what's an emu (It's nothing to do with Rod Hull is it?)

Sorry m8, I've not really added anything usefull to this thread, but now I'm going to put that right!

An 'Emu' is an emulator. It's software emulating hardware. That could be either a CAM, a smartcard, or sometimes both. The line can get a bit blurred when you cross over into the software world...

Explained beautifully as usual. That's another piece in the Satellite jigsaw puzzle I now have.

Thanks

I'm a new boy. I don't know much about satellite technology - well, sort of nothing really. Being rather old fashioned I haven't got it in my castle yet. Actually we're still watching black and white telly.
I do know somebody who has set up some kind of system that can tap into worldwide viewing, but he's a Scottish laird and, as we all know, they're clever sods. Well, they invented it, didn't they?
However, to get to the point. I don't know if it comes under this forum, but my family motto, apart from Nil Carborundum Illigitimi, is When in Doubt, Lash Out.
I have a JVC 700X digital camcorder which I wish to link into my IBM ThinkPad to form a webcam. Which of you ceorls can help me? I'll give you free tickets to the bulls ball we're holding next week.

LOL, at least your TV licence is cheap(er)!

Don't think your going to get a solution to your camcorder problem here, unless someone happens to have done it and is feeling very generous.

Now if you could have worked a satellite dish in somewhere, people would be biting your hand off!

And I thought satellite buffs were clever people. One lives and learns, doesn't one? Do you think I might stay on just to put my oar in now and again, and maybe learn something? I'm getting a bit fed up just shooting poachers.
Did I see a general topic thread? Maybe that's where the clever sods hang out.
