I am thinking of buying an inclinometer and have been looking at the large selection of manual and electronic with a variety of prices. I am looking for value for money on something that will work accurately to simplify setting up azimuth and inclination. Any suggestions based on experience please?

If you've got a smart phone then Mast tuner is a free little app for Android that I've used on all my dishes to set poles vertically and various angles. You just need to hold the edge of the phone against whatever needs measuring and because it uses the accelerometer it resolves to 0.1°. The only negative thing I could say about it is it does need calibrating first which could be a catch 22, fortunately one of my poles is strung with an internal plumb line so I know it's absolutely vertical.

I have got this one from China. Also needs calibration. Works great. Has magnet and sticks to metal. Protractor.jpg

Have you tried searching the forum site advertisers?
If only a one off, a simple inexpensive inclinometer angle finder would suit. You can even make one with cardboard and a piece of string; there is a thread somewhere.

No Smart phones for me. Mine is slim and simple, makes and takes calls. One day maybe, but thank you.

Seems OK. I´ll consider it. I thought there might be something more satellite specific. Thank you.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Inclinometers are available from any good hardware store. Stick to a mechanical one, with a magnetic base. There is no reason why you should have something elaborate, shoots laser beams into space or that requires batteries unless you are installing after dark

Or at the other extreme, this one ... but is it magnetic?

Which one of the two would you think best?. A magnet would be useful, but does the second have it?. Any experience on either?
