Guys
I would like to increase the dish size of my 1.2 mtre prime focus dish without buying a new postioner and stand.

What I would like to know is if I bolted a larger dish (say a 1.8 or 2 mtre) in place of my existing dish would the tracking work the same and are there any other problems or setbacks to consider before going ahead with the project??

Im confident about the support and positioner being strong enough, the later being made of half inch casting.

Thanks in advance John

If the mount is the same, then you should be able to switch over, but you will need to fine tune or more..

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

As Rolf says, the larger the dish size, the more precise the focussing of the signal becomes.

If you are drilling the new surface to bolt on the old mount, the holes would have to be in the same position around the centre of the dish to ensure the signal is received from the same position in space.

Also the feed and the distance of each of the arms (3 or 4 on a prime focus dish) make a lot of difference to the final direction signals can be received from .

Ahh yes, that was the Mk1 Sky minidish, fortunately Sky persuaded S.E.S Astra to increase the satellite output, so that they could reduce the size slightly. :)
