There are various tools out there to diagnose and retrieve data from platter drives, but is there such a thing for solid state devices ?

I acquired a couple of 250GB drives that appear to be dead to the outside world and understand these things don't like defragmenting, but is there an intrusion tool that is safe to use ?

Thanks

I had started looking through the usual sites (snake oil - WDC), then found the Easus recommendation with trial software here

Somebody else has mentioned Acronis software as a possible, but I've also seen forum threads suggesting it cannot 'see' certain manufacturer drives.

Hmm, just seen this.

However, all SSDs still store data in electrical charges, which slowly leak over time if left without power. This causes worn out drives (that have exceeded their endurance rating) to start losing data typically after one (if stored at 30 °C) to two (at 25 °C) years in storage; for new drives it takes longer.[5] Therefore, SSDs are not suited for archival purposes.
