Hi all,

I'm thinking of going motorised, and I want to attach the dish to my garage (the only available mount place at the moment).

The walls of the garage are solid concrete, and I wanted to know what is the minimum thickness of a slab I could connect the dish pole mount to?

I read somewhere is has to be 8 inches thick minimum? I think the slabs are only 4 inches thick, will this be ok or am I up cr*p creek :)

Oh also this will/would be a pole mount above the roofline (5ft pole or so).

Thanks

Well my timber frame house doesn't have 8 inch walls and my dish is pole mounted.

If you use the twin pole mounts, as attached picture, i don't see a problem.

Make sure it is vertical and you won't go far wrong.

Good luck

If you have an unconcreted base where you propose to site your dish, wy not extend your mounting pole down to earth level. One mounting bracket would do then.
I've used this method on a wooden shed with no problem.

I could do, but a 12-16ft pole would cost a bomb :)

LOL, but not as much as rebuilding your garage... :D

I'm with Llew on this one. Let the planet take the weight.

In fact, I'd do that and use TWO brackets!

I'll have to go hunting for a building site near me then :-rub

also are the Jaeger HH motors fully weatherproof? or would it be a good idea to cover in a plastic bag of somesort with drainage holes at the bottom etc..

Wombatter, I recently put my dish on my garage, it's one of these pressed concrete garages, what I did was;

Use T & K Brackets, bolted these down with a steel plate on the inside of the garage to reduce the strain on the bolts, got a 4m 2inch diameter pole, I dug half a meter into the ground and threw in a concrete pot, using my t&k brackets I ensured my pole was completely vertical then I filled the pot with concrete. By doing this I took a lot of the weight of the wall.

Good luck
