iPhone 7 - any good?

I am coming to end on my current mobile phone contract.

I am currently with o2 on a refresh tariff, this costs me

Air time £10.90 and phone plan £20 total monthly spend £30.90

That gives me 750mb 4G data 300 minutes of cross network calls and unlimited texts.

I am 50/50 if I want a new phone at all, so I want to know if the new iPhone 7 is really worth the money.

That's not very much data for 4G Chris, you probablty need to be looking at 2 gig minimum, I regularly use more than 2.5 gig, but have an allowance of 4.

I've had an iphone 7 since september and like it, it's fast, better on battery than the old 5s I had, but perhaps not as good as it could be. Love the finger print recognition and use it for apple pay with small purchases, saves loads of time.:) Video and camera is pretty good also.

I will have to look around and see what deals I can find.

Can't decide if I want the 7+

Have you considered a Samsung S8? I have an iPhone 6s at work and I hate it with a passion. My wife loves them... As do many other people. I'd say the 7 is an improvement but you wouldn't go wrong with a 6s either. And you can still use 99.9% of all the world's headphones with buying 20 different adapters...

I don't get on with android phones. I have the iPhone 6.

O2 in my area is not as good as it used to be, just I read so many horror stories about EE and three.

I'm on EE and find it great, particularly with EE Wifi call, means as long as I can log onto wifi, I can still receive calls, even in bad reception areas.

Just been looking at sim free option for the 7 +

Best I have found is £719 and if I wanted I could pay it off monthly.

The hp plan is £19 down £32.07 x 24.

Will give o2 a poke and see what deal I can get.

Ouch! I used to swear by O2 but have been with Three for many years now and it has been fine for me. I've heard loads of horror stories about EE but my wife recently went with them despite my protests. She is paying £25 a month and paid £130 up front.

I usually wait until phones are 'outdated' in 3 months time through release of a newer model, sending their prices down and buy them outright 2nd hand. And pay £11 a month for a SIM only deal - much cheaper in the long run and I can switch to another provider at any time.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

I had a truly horrendous experience with T-Mobile, having had the earlier One2One tariff, so I wouldn't consider moving to EE.

I had a contract's with one2one and t-mobile, many many years ago. Signal was the main reason I left them, and switched to o2.

Still looking around o2 seem to be one of the dearest networks, it even makes vodaphone look competitive.

You can try operators that piggy back onto O2's network, like Tesco and giffgaff.

I got a Giffgaff card from a friend that I thought might be good for my daughter, it is twice as expensive as the O2 I am on.

The gift packs may be good for somebody using the phone all the time, but for irregular call useage it is useless as they do not carry over to the next month.

That just it I use about 20 minutes a month, 3-5 texts and about 75mb of 4G data.

Most of the time the phone is connected to wifi.

All the other tariffs have silly amounts of data and calls, I chuck away loads at the end of the month.

Won't ever touch Apple phones (although my stepson is an Apple "person") - tied into a regime I don't like and too f***ing expensive all round.

We always buy unlocked lower-midrange phones outright, and so can choose what, and from where, we buy them - currently I have a Moto G 3rd Gen and SWMBO has a 4th Gen one (which she loves!) for about £160 each for phones with quad-core processors, very good screens, 2GB of RAM & 16GB of internal storage (+ microSD cards as well).

We also use separate SIM-only deals:
- I have a £7.50 a month for 500MB and 250 mins SIM on Giffgaff- and0 I never get anywhere close to the limits (except once, on another data-only Giffgaff SIM, when I started using OneDrive to sync between my home laptop and the little net-top with a 3G dongle that I took to work and that ate my data-limit in 4-5 days).
- SWMBO has a Virgin £10/month voice & data SIM for her phone (mainly because we also have Virgin broadband & landline), and we both have £5/month Giffgaff 500MB data-only SIMS for our 4G tablets for when we are out and about or abroad. (Just got her a lovely Huawei Mediapad M3 for her birthday - looking very good so far).

In that case have you considered the Three network 3-2-1 SIM only deal? 3p per minute for phone calls (with NO connection fee), 2p per text and 1p per MB data. There's no time limit on the credit either - it's there until you use it.

I can make a £10 credit last for six months or more with ease. When I first thought of going with Three I really thought there must be some kind of catch but there doesn't appear to be one.

PAYG |PAYG SIM - Three

EDIT The phone does have to support at least 3G frequencies which made UK coverage a bit spotty in the past. I've just changed to a S/H Moto G3 which has 4G coverage and it's fair to say that coverage (for me) is even better than my previous 3G phone (an HTC Sensation).

Tried THREE several years ago, but here (in W.London!) the signal was so poor/intermittent that I took it back (to TESCO) after a few days - might be worth another shot now if your experience/cost is anything to go by as our monthly voice/data use is low (flexibility is a great reason for being unlocked phones on SIM-only deals - can change almost anytime you like).

BTW: any experience of using it abroad (Europe).?

I have.

In many parts of the world (42 countries) Three have an agreement called Feel At Home whereby if you're on a contract then you can use your phone there at the same rate as you were in the UK (with a slight restriction on maximum data use if you have unlimited data).

PAYG customers like me have less of a benefit but one great positive is incoming phone calls are free to answer. In France (the only country I've been to since I've been with Three) calls out are 3.9p/minute, texts are 1.6p (cheaper than at home!) and data is 3.9 p/MB. I seldom use data in the UK and I switch it on even less when I'm abroad.

One thing I have found, and this may be a phone quirk and not a network problem, is that every so often the automatic network switching when roaming doesn't work and I have to manually select a network. Not all networks are signed up with Three and you may have to try a few.

My new phone is also a Moto G3. Very impressed by it I am. Was your previous Three experience just with a 3G phone?

Love sim free phones! Currently on PlusNet Mobile with 1500mins Unlimited texts and 5 Gig of data for £10 a month, Back to the original question by Chris though....iPhone.....errrgh!! Lol, but seriously though, the + model has better battery life compared to the smaller one and by an actual noticeable margin according to the review sites.

I will have to go for a contract of some sorts if I do go for the upgrade.

EE & three have some fairly good deals, I now need to think about it.

Why? If your usage is a low as you say then you should seriously consider buying a phone outright (an iPhone if you must) and then get a PAYG SIM.
